Welcome to Aphes – a city-state full of magic and wonder inspired by ancient Rome and classical Greek designs. From the mist-covered bazaar streets to gloomy sewers, the enigmatic forests at the city’s outskirts to deep chasms full of glittering crystals, the landscapes of Aphes are full of beauty and dangers.

Choose from a variety of ranged and melee weapons on the go and combine them as you wish! The talent system allows you to pick and expand your combat style by choosing two out of six completely different weapons: sword and shield, dual blades, spear, hammer, staff or even magic bracelets. Equip a magical staff to obliterate your foes from the distance or switch to a gigantic battle hammer to squish them in a close combat.

Every choice and every decision you make matters. Your journey in Aphes will lead you to discover the truth behind the city’s curse, letting you piece together its history through conversations, discovered documents and cinematics, as well as Hilda’s own diary, which she’ll update with sketches and observations.

The world of Asterigos is full of secrets and untold stories. Find over 100 collectibles, complete numerous side quests and build on your legacy in the New Game+ mode!

Compelling

I've been playing this for around 20 hours and I've been enjoying it a lot. Many non-Souslike action RPGs can get a bit boring for me, while the Soulslikes are a bit too frustrating. On the normal difficulty ("Adventure"), this game has the perfect level of challenge--I have to fight bosses multiple times and feel a rush of achievement when I beat them, without getting too frustrated. Enemies have clear telegraphs that never leave me wondering how I died, and I feel like I have to exploit all the game mechanics (consumables, equipment, special abilities, etc) in order to overcome challenges, unlike a lot of action RPGs where I feel like I can find a dominant strategy fairly quickly and ignore the rest of the mechanics. The story is also engaging so far; while I found it a bit "cringey" at first (I'm not entirely sure why), once I played for a few hours, I found the story compelling and the characters endearing. Good guys have flaws, while bad guys aren't always what the seem; even the main character isn't perfect, as her idealism can sometimes make situations worse. These aspects give the story a complex texture, and there's also a nice sense of mystery that makes me eager to find out what happens next. The level design makes environments really memorable and fun to explore; destructibles and hidden areas don't advertise themselves, so finding them feels rewarding. I also love that there's no map: it's challenging and fun to learn a level's layout by heart, exercising a part of my brain that has atrophied since the era of GPS. A few other notes: * The game's difficulty can be changed at any time. * This game supports ultra-widescreen resolutions (Elden Ring doesn't!). * This game has never crashed on me. The game isn't without its flaws, of course: for example, the camera can be finicky, which can get very frustrating in tough fights. But overall I find these to be minor quibbles in light of the game's strengths.

Very good game - with minor rough edges

20 hours in and I have mostly positive things to say about Asterigos. What I liked: - Graphics are nice, but what really makes it eyecatching is the presentation, the particle effects, FX and the animations. There is a lot to like here, especially the combat combo moves look fantastic. - I like the world and enemy design quite a bit. - I do like the weapons, but I must admit that I have basically only used 2 for the majority of my playtime, especially since I started upgrading them. - The story is picking up a lot. In the beginning it was not very convincing or well written at times, but that has improved and some of the characters are actually really interesting and I wish to learn more about them and their motives. - For me the game has been 100% stabsle so far and I have only noticed very minor visual bugs. Great job! What I did not like - A lot of enemies will not notice you unless you run right up to them and start hitting them - Since the games does not have a real map, navigation could be helped by having signposts or sth. similar in the gameworld to guide the player. Usually you know the name of the place you need to reach, but it is not always clear which way can be taken. That being said it is usually communicated quite well to the player what the next objective is and how it can be achieved Overall a thumbs up from my side! I am curious to see whats next in line.

Solid game, but frustrating at times

The game is enjoyable but I found myself having to put it down a few times because of how frustrating certain parts of it are. - Many enemy "charging" attacks often include most of their body, not just the area in front of them. If a soldier with a spear charges forward, you will likely get hit if you are standing close behind them. - No real map, points of interest are not saved anywhere except in your head. Might be worth making your own maps like some old-school games, except there's no compass and many levels have quite a bit of verticality to them. - Lack of a detailed journal. There is a journal, but it does not describe what your current objective is for any of the side quests. If you put the game down for a week and come back to it, you'll likely be wondering what half the quest items in your inventory are for. - Backtracking, Due to the previous 2 issues, I found myself wandering up and down a zone/level/area multiple times to try to complete sidequests. - The platforming in the game is not well implemented, and falling off a cliff or into water is met with instant death and teleporting back to the last fountain. Either the platforming needs to be much more apparent as to where you can jump or what you can jump on, or falling off of a cliff should return you back to the ledge minus a few HP. Despite these flaws, the game is overall enjoyable, and I hope the developer continues to work on games and learns from their mistakes on this game.

Action RPG with Mild Souls Vibes

Action RPG: 1 playable character and three stats. Pick up all weapons in the tutorial. Two active at any time and upgrade them later on. Talents unlock special moves. The talent tree isn't overbearingly huge. The game isn't souls-like in doing its best to kill you whenever, but you do get environmental insta-kills (mainly deep water). Ambushes you can evade if you pay attention. Hungry chests. Boss fights. There is a huge sprawling world, with short-cuts you can open up later. Linear at first, but later you can pick between several directions. Only got lost once and I found it easy to regain bearings. Like DS, the game takes place in a deteriorating world, but it has living people. Magical echoes that replay events and help explain the backstory. Focus on choices and consequences seems a bit off to me; the choices I'd prefer to make weren't available. I feel that part could be improved by a better presentation. The manner in which characters speak is a bit too modern for my tastes and at times too much a commentary on bad current governments. Then again, there's a reason the city is deteriorating. Not many bugs. Did get stuck inside a bomb during a boss fight. Smacked it to smithereens and got launched right up out of the map and insta-killed. Besides that, crashes on my Intel Iris laptop in the area opened up by Quintus. That GPU isn't officially supported, but would be great if a future update fixes it. The performance on that machine is splendid. As for system specs, I feel they are listed a bit higher than really needed. The installer is ~12Gb, not 30Gb. At the start everything is set to ultra. My nVidia 1650 Super had no issues on 1080p.

Arpg/Souls mix in fresh setting

In short: Solid arpg in a fresh setting with souls map design. After playing dark souls games i was looking for something a bit different for some novelty and Asterigos fulfilled that desire while still giving a familiar exploration experience. The story is told openly in scenes and dialogues between npc's with bonus lore found in notes. I think the environment looks more upbeat due a brighter color palette and perhaps also a more stylized look. Combat follows ARPG design with combo moves and special attacks unlocked in a branching skill tree. There is a limited reset option and in combination with the savefile system you can abuse that to try alternatives without cost. There is animation cancel for dodging while block is limited to shield&sword. Asterigos also has difficulty options. Overall i died on max difficulty less so than in dark souls games. The primary reason i think Asterigos is easier is a higher potion amount right from start and easier to read telegraph attacks on heavy hitters which i do consider a positive change. You can make it even harder as there are some weird wearable items you can find early that will reduce your stats and a ring that locks xp gain (no idea if achievement or some deeper meaning behind those) and of course other players should welcome the option to scale difficutly down. Lastly Asterigos runs very well. No crashes, lags or weird glitches. 4/5 for a good game with 5/5 is reserved for genre defining titles.
