Surprisingly good rally game

The game simulates the progression of rally cars over the last couple of decades in several different groups. Its surprisingly fun and easy to pick up and play. The learning curve is, in my opinion at least, really nicely done with stages getting progressively harder and your car faster with the coming years. There are a handful of cars to drive. All of them feel distinctly different. The atmosphere conveyed by the looks alone is really on point. The soundtrack is nothing that special and falls into the category "Cyber-/Synthwave" which i like really much but i think this kind of style doesnt fit for a rally racing game in my opinion. My only real gripe with the game so far is the depth perception. Its really hard to spot hilltops because of the camera position.

A great little rally game

It's a very well made arcade rally game. In my humble opinion, art of rally nails pretty much everything I expected of it. It has a great car roster with pretty iconic beasts such as the Alpine A110, the Audi Quattro or the Subaru Impreza. The cars themselves are very manageable and fun to drive. Regarding the tracks, there is a pretty good selection of countries and stages with a lot of variety. Whether you prefer asphalt, gravel or snow, the game pretty much has it all. The content of the game is also planned to be regularly updated. Now regarding the gameplay, don't buy it looking for a simulation feel, you'll only be dissapointed. This game is much more arcade oriented with cars having quite some inertia. Drifting is the key here. To paraphrase what has been said about a lot of other titles, it's an easy game to pick up but takes some time to master, meaning you'll beat the AI relatively easily but will need quite some practice to have competitive lap times. Sometimes, I feel like the car slide waaaaay too much but then I do a series of hairpins perfectly and it's all good. Finally, the soundtrack is spot on and creates a really nice atmosphere. If you like rally, mostly vintage/youngtimer cars and powerslides, I think you'll enjoy this game. Can be a bit frustrating at times but also very satisfying.

Wait 'til it's on sale, maybe

I bought this because I love Virtua Racing, Sega Rally, Daytona USA and 90s poly graphics in general and, well, it's not great to be honest. It feels a bit grindy, I was hoping for more of a quick arcadey blast but the physics are just way too floaty to be fun. It's definitely no Micro Machines that's for sure, which is a shame, because it looks ace and the soundtrack (one of the game's saving graces!) is absolutely brilliant. There are some games that are easy to get into but difficult to master (OG Sega Rally and Mario Kart) but once you get past the pretty graphics and awesome soundtrack Art Of Rally's not actually that much fun to play :/

Excellent arcade rallying

Ultra satisfying arcade physics based on realistic handling, good soundtrack, amazing wavy visuals, easy to learn hard to master, online leaderboards, sick car selection. Indie games win again (undefeated)

Beautiful, enjoyable rally game

Art of rally is a very fun game, that lets you drive the most iconic rally cars from historic to modern times. While the cars are not named after their real world coounterparts, it is pretty clear what they are based on. Graphically this game is really beautiful - just look at some of the screenshots. Combined with the music, this is a fantastic audio-visual packages. Locations are varied and each is unique and unmistakeable in their look. The only downside for me is the camera perspective, which is very hard to get used to and actually hinders my capabilities of driving competitive times. It is much more of a helicopter perspective, than a classic third person view from behind the car. Personally I wish there was the option of such a camera perspective. I would still recommend the game without hesitation.
