Having a loving fiancee and a promising life he is chosen to participate in one of the most important missions in the history of humanity – first contact with an alien race. Although the humans were greeted with honor, the aliens also gave them a warning – there is another vicious race, known as “The Seekers”, dedicated to eradicating the human species. Finally played the game I decided not to when it came out. Better than I expected. Kind of like Jedi Knight 2 just without the FMV and lightsaber. It very much like what's left after that.
To play it today in 2024+, you do need to accept that its graphics aren't that great (it was not great even when it came out), and you need to accept that its fairly buggy and will crash a bunch of times.
EDIT Nov 2025: Controller support. I assume this was why someone rated the post down as I stated previously that one must use custom 3rd party software and bindings. There is internal controller support but it comes with a lot of special notes and possible confusion. I've torn through this more recently and will post this info when I've finished testing it, as well as edit this review once more.
But, I intend to play this game through more times. Its plenty of fun.
This is one very very VERY good game. Futuristic, unique as concept and execution. Very nice orchestral soundtrack, very atmospheric and the graphics are cool too. Most of all - the powers the main hero has are fantastic (in literal and figurative speech). It is very destructive even without the weapons. Speaking of weapons - they are cool and very well crafted too, the alien weapons are cool, the ships and aliens are unique and everything is real piece of art. The story also is fantastic and unique - it acts as a movie to some degree with a lot of cool cinematic that are pretty good and long without the boring "cinematic experience". Everything you use constantly as equipment and powers levels up - and you unlock even new powers and alternative modes to powers and weapons - you really become force to be reckoned with, and yet you are not indestructible - you have to be very careful and never underestimate the opponent.
Don't listen the bad feedback or the negative critics and tests! This gam is fun and awesome. If you a sci-fi fan or like cool adeventure games it's your game! The story is great, very Star Wars like, but keep it original. The score is the best. I say it's got better score than some movies. The characters are also very good and voicing them great and familiar actors Dwight Schultz (A Team, Star Trek TNG), Michael Bell (Transformers G1), David Sobolov (Beast War Transformers). And the special abilities which Gideon learns and advance. It's better than Jedi Knight - I played it, to so I know what I'm talkng about.
Of course the game got some negatives. It's crash many times after the Seeker ship attack. And you can't save, the game use checkpoints - another bad point. The graphics not the "state f the art", but looks good and colorful. And it's very short. :( Maybe not the fist but when yu played multple times ad learn Gideon powers you can nearly invincible. And you can read the end "To be continued..." Badly tha game planned a trilogy, but Majesco drop after the negative sales and critics.
If you like sci-fi, good stories or great musical scores it's your game! Don't miss it, it's worth 6 $.
The mini summary: Aliens invade the earth and you have to fight your way through them. You learn new skills, both mundane like fighting as well as PSI powers that you gain and develop over time. The whole game has a very immersive story, written by SciFi co-author Orson Scott Card, and some nice cinematics. The cinematics set the scene and you let your protagonist go through fulfilling the objectives. This is a shooter with some RPG elements, you can play first or third person view.
The main theme of the game is winning against the evil invaders (the Seekers) and growing ever stronger in you fighting and PSI powers. The story is fantastic, the best I have ever seen in a shooter. The game has good graphics, lots of different things to do: drive spaceships or ground based vehicles, use different weapons and PSI powers (lots of both), dodge & jump, you name it. Majesco seems to have had a knack for capable heroes in their stories (e.g.: Bloodrayne, Psychonauts), to bad they stopped making triple-A games.
What is nice is that you really like the hero. The story develops both him and the other protagonists as well as the world around you. You have a lot of options so it lets you choose how to solve the levels as you take them, if you like shooting then there are lots of options, if you prefer PSI powers, then go with those. The controls are easy and well thought out (standard mouse and keyboard with good defaults).
This is a truly original game, much more interesting than Far Cry, Prey or most of the shooters I have seen in recent years. It seems they concentrate on graphics wow and forget about game play. Not the the graphics in this game are bad, they are good (Quake 4 level, but nicer color schemes ;-) The moves are really nice and add a lot of fun to the game play. The PSI powers are original, you have a wide variety so you can choose your style and it levels well.
What is bad: is not a lot.

good graphics and cinematics, easy to use controls that let you concentrate on the game play. There is some replay value as well as there are some choices you make early on that effect how things go.
All in all definitely rates a high score if you like third persons shooter games with depth. Higher if you like original games with that let you decide your style, less if your aim is need to have your newest super duper machine showing it's strength.
Go for it: recommended for all gamers.
