The Void. The Matter. The Megastructure. A dystopian world with an egomaniac leader determined to unveil the secrets of the universe. INFONET promised a utopia built on the backs of tireless androids called Denzels. It was a lie.
200 years later the planet is decaying and the mysterious Red Seed has been stolen. Raz, a renegade mechanic, searches a hidden lab and discovers the Denzel Cherry, butchered and left for dead, clinging to life by sheer will alone. Her creator—and the love of her life, Doctor Shinji Fallon—has been taken by a demented sicko and Cherry intends to make him—and anybody or anything who gets in her way—pay.
Fueled by love and powered by rage, join Cherry on a blood-soaked quest for revenge as she explores the massive Megastructure and eviscerates the armies of INFONET in an unforgettable over-the-top 2D platformer that breaks tropes and bones.
Cookie Cutter is unabashedly irreverent, violent, and risqué. Become Cherry, a badass android on a rage-filled and love-driven quest. To save her beloved creator she’ll explore and fight her way through a unique illustrated sci-fi dystopian world as she chainsaw-murders anybody who stands in her way.
Every frame of this immersive experience is drawn by hand with copious amounts of love. That means epic, fall-out-of-your-chair visuals. Grotesque bugs and menacing robots. Gargantuan bosses. Ridiculous weapons, special moves, and brutal gory finishers. All of it brought to life with benchmark 2D animation.
Whether you’re ripping the wings off overgrown mosquitos, impaling mini-bosses, crushing robots on Cherry’s motorcycle, or kick-punch-uppercut-stomping waves of foes with complex combos, you won’t find a better fighting experience with responsiveness and all the flair you could ask for in a Metroidvania.
Far future dystopia? Check. An android companion turned rage-filled killer? Check. Over-the-top characters and enemies? Check. Buckets of blood? Of course. Experience our bizarre tale, inspired by Japanese manga and Quentin Tarantino films, through 10 huge zones, each weirder than the next.
Why is it that GOG is treated as a second class store by so many developers, they add their games, they CHARGE for their games, and then they proceed to abandon their games and their players. This game has gotten multiple significant updates on steam; the most recent added stuff like: full voice acting, tons of bug fixes, tons of freaking cutscenes to the bosses and the ending of the game, tons of QoL improvements. Yet this version is still the 1.0 one?
What's going on?
Game feels overly difficult until you start to feel the flow. I haven't finished it yet, this based on around 7 hours of play.
Fun enemy designs, bosses, cool art and animations and some wicked execution moves. Combat feels good, some of the dialogue is genuinely funny. It's more of a combat focused metroidvania than most.
Needs to handle upgrades a bit better (I have so many upgrades, but can't install any of them due to lack of power) - oh, and it runs well on the deck too.
Recommended!
Yesterday finished it! What a blast, Iove everything! The story, the gameplay, the visuals, and the music. This is a must-play if you love metroidvanias and cartoon-like characters and environments. And the ending!!! Woooo!!! Great work people!!!
P.D: when the full voice patch drops... man! It will be perfect
One of the few games that's actually pulled me in enough to actually want to beat it!
The story is fun, the style is stick, and the brutally animated combat feels *great* once you get into the flow.
Combat starts out feeling a bit clunky, but once you unlock a few critical upgrades like air dodging, plus you realize dodging works just as well to keep you alive as the parry move does.
Pro-tip: if you want to kill enemies via parrying, keep in mind the purple 'parry attack' flash doesn't mean "press parry button now" -- the flash just means you should get for an attack you can either dodge, or parry. If you parry, you need to watch the enemy animation, and hit parry just before the animation hit.
That throws a lot of people off, judging by other reviews I've seen.
And keep in mind that attacks can be canceled into a parry or dodge.
This was a great metropolitan had a great time however the GOG version is lacking the Overkill Edition Update that makes the game feel much more polished overall and especially in the case of the voice acting this version only has the intro and tutorial segment voiced everything else is just text boxes. really hoping that the Overkill Edition comes to GOG and also would really love a sequel and maybe some DLC for some doors found throughout the game that don't open and don't seem to even show up on the map
