Description

Upgrade to the BATTLETECH Season Pass and receive Flashpoint and two upcoming BATTLETECH expansions.

BATTLETECH's first-ever expansion adds new gameplay, depth, and over 30 hours of new content to your mercenary experience. Introducing Flashpoints: high-stakes, branching short stories that link together mercenary missions, crew conversations, special events, critical choices, and rare bonus rewards to take BATTLETECH's endgame and Career-Mode gameplay to the next level.

Flashpoints embroil you in the feuds and machinations of the various Great Houses of the Inner Sphere, and are designed to keep even the most hardened mercenary commanders on their toes. In addition to narrative twists and turns, some Flashpoint stories feature consecutive deployments in which players can’t repair or heal between missions, while others feature infiltration contracts that restrict the tonnage of deployable BattleMechs.

Beyond adding over 30 hours of exciting Flashpoints to BATTLETECH, this expansion comes complete with three new ‘Mechs (including the highly anticipated Hatchetman), a challenging new mission type, and a new tropical biome for the biggest and most challenging BATTLETECH experience yet.

FLASHPOINTS
Here's just a few examples of the many new stories and challenges you'll face as a mercenary commander in Flashpoint:

Extracurricular Activities
The petty squabbling of political rivals takes a deadly turn when civilians are caught in the crossfire. Will you escort them to safety at the risk of your MechWarriors and their 'Mechs… even if they can't pay?

Criminal Minds
The routine capture of a criminal syndicate’s warehouse uncovers the resting place of an ancient BattleMech. Will you share this information with your employer or keep the ‘Mech for yourself?

Headhunting
The Zhao twins are a thorn in the side of your employer and it’s time to terminate their command. But when their forces are routed and the siblings flee in two directions you’ll need to choose which commander - and which unique salvage - you’ll pursue.

NEW BATTLEMECHS
Expand your 'Mech arsenal with the armor-chopping power of the Hatchetman, the speed and versatility of the Crab, and the battle-computer-equipped Cyclops.

NEW ENCOUNTER
Target Acquisition is an exciting new mission type that challenges you to put your light and medium 'Mechs to the test. Take control of three locations to triangulate fire on an enemy installation before time runs out.

NEW BIOME
Take the fight to all-new lush, tropical environments - but watch out for the spore clouds (or use them to your advantage!)

mixed bag

It's sad to admit, but I think you actually get more novelty out of the 1.3 patch, than out of this actual expansion. On the one hand, it's more Battletech: three new mechs and scripted mini-campaigns (a little dialogue, a choice to make, some missions, a new reward mechanic). Content is of high quality and everything works fine, even if the load times regress a little. On the other, it's hardly enough to tide you over until Urban Warfare comes out next year. And, bottom line? It's pricey for this little content. I'm in for the long-haul: I backed the game, I bought the season pass, I've been into Battletech long before this iteration. But for someone coming to this as a fresh experience? I wouldn't blame you for giving this expansion a pass.

Too expensive for the amount of content

For a DLC, with this amount of content, it should be considered a major patch or a mini-DLC. If it was priced around 10$ / 10€, it might reached 4 stars.

A little short

Its a bit short for the money. There are 18 missions, however, from a practical standpoint, you can only play 13 of them in one play through. Meaning you would have to start 6 games to see all the new missions. The new missions can be very wonky. Patch introduced new bugs. Advice is to wait for a deeper discount (50% off the current price).

The Sky is falling. Nope thas a dropship

The pros: Its still an enjoyable game. The few new mechs added are a plus. The tweaks they did with skills and targeting are good. The cons: 1. Random missions where drop ships land on your mechs at the end of the mission, crushing your mech and putting your main character in the med bay for 90 days. If your going to have dropships land at the end of the misson there should be an identified area to avoid/stay out of. I have ptdz disorder when I see the dropship fly in and the end of the misison. 2. Flashpoint missions are ridiculously hard. Example. protect the base buildings. First round before you move, the enemy from outside weapons range levels 3 of the 6 buildings and the enemy lance mech tonnage out weighs you by 60 tons not including the multiple vehilce reinforcments. This was supposed to be a difficulty rating of 2 1/2 atlas heads. I like a challenge but seriously. Summary: Not terrible and Not great either. Need more mechs. Expand the galaxy map to include more houses.

BATTLETECH

This has been one of my favorite genres over the years. Overall, Battletech was pretty good, however it was very buggy and had some serious performance problems initially. Some of the problems have been fixed, some have not. While the storyline was very good, I personally felt that it was way to short, especially at the initial price of the game. The new Season Pass is out with the first DLC, but at $50 USD it seems way overpriced for DLC for a game that was already too short to begin with. In all honesty, after what we got with Season Passes for half that amount for games like Witcher 3 and other top notch games, I thinking they may want to reconsider their price point, it just seems their price is over the top...
