Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory

Great game indeed, I'm not a multiplayer person but i love this game, i play Et legacy on Linux and everything works just fine.

I remember playing the game several years ago. It was pretty neat game at that time. We were playing this game on our school computers without internet using only LAN. This is how multiplayer games should be like. Today, I see most modern games with multiplayer function requiring internet as a major issue. I don't see multiplayer games have a much better future. Cheaters, Bans, constant requirement of internet in order to enjoy game is very off putting. The golden era of multiplayer games, of which this game is a memorable remnant, is already long gone. Most multiplayer don't do so well today because of the unnecessary complexity they have brought for a person to have a good time. Games are supposed to be fun, not a bore or chore.

The core gameplay itself is absolute greatness, especially the large maps by Splash Damage. There is no multiplayer FPS with a greater focus on teamplay than old school Wolfie, and that's what I love about it. With that said, the only good, unmodded vanilla servers are the official ones by Id Software released about a month ago. Unfortunately, you have to wade through a bunch of garbage in order to find them, garbage that will change the way your menu looks without asking, and even prevent you from joining other servers. That, along with XPSave servers becoming the norm, giving newbies a horrible disadvantage, are the reasons this game died way sooner than it should have. I can't see anyone playing it for the first time in 2022 being able to have a good time because of this, but that doesn't change the fact that it was god-tier in its heyday.
