Présentant la bande sonore primée aux GRAMMY® Awards de Winifred Phillips !
Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord is a full 3D remake of the first game in the legendary Wizardry series of RPGs.
The first party-based RPG video game ever released, Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord was a direct inspiration to series like Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest. Digital Eclipse's revival preserves the appeal of the classic, with many upgrades for modern role-playing game fans.
Dungeon Crawling, Deluxe
Craft your own party of adventurers and head into the labyrinth at the behest of the mad overlord Trebor, in search of the amulet stolen by the evil wizard Werdna. Battle groups of challenging enemies, avoid hidden traps, and make your way deeper into the dungeon as you prepare for the ultimate battle: Facing Werdna himself.
Commitment to Accuracy
Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord is built directly on top of the original 1981 game's code. Although it looks all new, underneath the hood is the authentic game. You can even view the original Apple II interface as you play.
Challenge Without Hassle
While the well-known difficulty of the enemies has not been altered, quality-of-life improvements have been added in every area. Party management, navigation, spellcasting, and combat have all been significantly enhanced.
A Legend Reborn
If you're just discovering the legendary Wizardry franchise, Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord is the perfect jumping-in point for new players. Series veterans will love the gorgeous new graphics and sound, and the streamlined interface.

Played the original 40 some years ago on my old Apple IIc ... this version is just breathtaking and really makes me weep with joy every time I play. So pretty. And built right on top of the original Apple II codebase to boot ! Wow .... just wow.
My comments ended up far to long and critical.
Summation - This is not being put on a 16K computer. The honor and respect you are showing the original wizardy I recognize - but there is a reason why you dont play it in Blobber world that much - it was hamstrung by what it could do technologically from when it was made.
Keep on developing.
If you want to give us more options for us to pick and choose , try a quest board, shut off alignments? Better cartography options even more advanced than those provided. Later iterations of wizardry ( I am going to some of the ps releases with the Porklu etc) had maps you could find which would allow the auto map to be revealed - which you could color code for not explored etc. Doesnt have to be so basic.
I am looking forward to see how much more gets spiced up with this. Hopefully its doesnt just end up a tribute game that the 50+ crowd will oogle.
There are few things i hate on this release and I know there will be people who will disagree with me but i have to go out of my hearth.
First thing: Graphics or maybe better Aesthetics of the Game!!!
Do you remember that time when Ubisoft bought Might and Magic frenchise and made it 3D. That is exactly how this game looks even the movement of the camera in the city or at the begining of the battle looks like HoMaM V+ . Did wizardry needed bland generic ugly 3D remake? Of course they didnt. But yet we are here. Portraits are kind of bland as well. Btw. here are just two portraits for each race other than human, sorry "lineage".
Second thing control!!!
Could a developer at least just pretend its also on PC, not just on consoles. The player can just literaly look on an old apple two version during the game. But no keyboard shortcut from original is posible. You have control the game with this left right alt, Q E arows Z Enter Space scheme. No mouse support whatsoever. Btw. when you are in Boltac shop and and you press left alt for next player the filter also changes as you were pressing ctrl.
Changes to the Wizardry frenchise Core. Like no more random levelup stats increasment and decreasment
I played the Wizardry series a lot when they were released, and completed all of the games multiple times. I'm also currently playing Wizardry I in an Apple II emulator.
The main problem I have with this remake is that it's WAY more difficult than the original game. My entire party has been wiped out during the first encounter, on the first level, in the first room entered, multiple times. There's no difficulty setting, but somehow the developers made the monsters WAY tougher.
My other observation is that while the graphics and audio are nice, the UI is weirdly clunky and inconsistent. The original game is literally easier to use.
I'll stick with it, but so far it's been frustrating.
I was really surprised when this game showed up. I had not heard any buzz about it.
Wizardry was the first game I played on a personal, portable computer (Apple ][ ), and I have many happy memories of it.
The new 3D version is true to the original game. Death is frequent and brutal, and you need to exercise some significant party management skills. Your hands sweat as you try to get out of the Maze before a random encounter kills off one of your prized party members.
The controls are a bit clunky at times. For example, in the original game, I remember being able to swap equipment between players, but I have not found a way in this new version. There were also some wanky mechanics where the Maze shifted before my eyes. It was the second level; so it is highly probably a bug rather than some magical effect.
I have only been down to the second level, and then, I had to start over because of a random encounter gone wrong (party was *extremely* unlucky), but that is also the way the original game was.
All in all, for a game in development, it is already a lot of fun. I look forward to continued play and see the improvements as they are developed.
