Wing Commander™ 3 Heart of the Tiger™

WC3 is a great example of the potential of computer games to tell a story. The gameplay itself is amazing and the cinematic feel really makes the player feel like they are part of a developing story. The performances by Mark Hamill, Jonathan Rhys-Davies, and Malcolm McDowell cement what is already a gripping narrative. I'd highly recommend this game to anyone looking to see PC gaming at its pinnacle.

The Wing Commander series came out when I was 4 years old and this space simulation still beats out most that I play to this day with a great balance of plot and gameplay even after 23 years I still have yet to grow tired of blowing up Kilrathi. I can't think of a better game to download for hours of interstellar enjoyment. Have fun and remember Alt Ctrl E to eject.... it happens.

I never had a PC until WC3, I'd pop into my cousin's play every second I could get to play WC1 + 2. Once I had my own PC, I spent day and night playing and I was totally engross in the story. If anything, get it for the story, the choices you make and getting the girl. I'd always tried to ditch my wing man cause I wanted all the kills to myself. Great story, good game. Imagine my jealousy when my cousin showed up with WC4 when it was out.

The best promotion I can give for this game is that I already own it, and it's special features disc, and it's player's guide (in paper) and fully functional on my old computer and I'm STILL willing to shell out the money to buy it on GOG for my newer computer. Back in the '90's as you know, everyone tried to make "interactive movies" they were a way to use CDs and real video in combination with gameplay to make an immersive, movie-like experience. Most failed, Wing Commander 3 did not. It is an absolute classic, where the video is well-used and the gameplay/story is great. If you like flying sims where the story comes first download it now. Sell anything, sell the clothes off your back. It's a borderline spiritual experience trying to defeat the Kilrathi, and I can't wait for this download to finish so I can do it again. And again, and...

I remember playing this at my mates house, as my computer wasn't fast enough. For it's time, this game was completely crazy. Solid space blaster action, backed up by something that felt as dark and powerful as the BSG remake. full marks.
