Strong Commitment to Premise
This game goes all out on the ideas that it wants to engage with. It is a bit silly at times, but it commits and I respect that. Conan the Barbarian would be less fun if Conan looked to the camera and acknowledged how weird the movie gets. I had a lot of fun with this. I had one weird visual glitch, but it cleared up when I tweaked some settings.

Typical game from 2000s
Too long and too ambitious. It's not bad enough to stop me from wanting to play, but it's also not good enough to keep me from playing automatically and playing for the sake of playing. Like a game from the 2000s just to fill the store.

A lot of heart, a lot of bugs
I hovered between 3 and 4 stars for this review because this game was mostly a very enjoyable experience for me despite the many obvious faults to be found here. Ultimately, I went for 4 stars, because I found a lot of heart in both the good aspects of the game as well as the poorer parts. As an example of this, something I found especially humorous (for both the wrong and right reasons) was the dialogue - some of it is hilariously cheesy and can be delivered in a very hammy way, which really delivers that "they wanted this sentence to mean so much more than it does" kind of feeling. The thing is, this is kind of emblematic of the game as a whole - they wanted it to be so much more than it is, and the game is dripping in that kind of charm, but also those kind of bugs. If you can put up with bugs galore, combat that is too easy, and just a general lack of polish, I think the rest of the game more than makes up for it.

Very entertaining - for a while
First things first: If you experience crashes or your PC freezes completely, you need a tiny, tiny patch which is called »4gb_patch« which will solve your problems. That aside, Venetica is a pretty looking game and very entertainig. Dialogues make sense, spells are really useful, there is much to explore, leveling up goes fast. Since I am a very slow player, I had fun for 40 hours, but then it lost me. There is nothing more to buy, nothing interesting to find, and the story isn’t that deep either, that you would eagerly anticipate the end. So I didn’t finish it, but it was really nice until I dropped it.
