As much as i loved the second game, which was one of the best rpgs ever made, even today, i have to say this game is complete garbage in comparison. I bought it some years ago on gog when it was on sale but couldn't play more than a few hours, maybe less. The gameplay is horrible outdated and boring, nobody that looks for something similar to the second game or any modern rpg will have fun playing this.

The atmosphere in this game is great, the story looks compelling, the part that I saw anyway, and it really give a WOD feeling to it. I can't fault that part. Now the gameplay isn't great, lots of clicking around for no reason. The game is not that hard and the gameplay doesn't stand in the way of the story. Until the first boss that is, and then the game becomes insanely difficult. It's like the game switches itself from easy/normal to impossible just for the boss. I read some cheats on how to deal with that boss and still getting my ass kicked... I gave up after 20+ shots at it. I'm sure it's a great game if you can look beyond this. However I play for enjoyment not frustration. If you get this cheap, it might be worth a shot... You might pass that first boss...

Eerg.... Ok, first off, I have no idea of the back story, this was a comic.. book... I don't know.. JUST reviewing this as a GAME. So I played it years ago and was intruiged. Returned to it recently thanks to GOG. Basic problems: Bugged up the arse, can't walk without your team mates getting in the way, your team members get stuck in doors regularly. Dialogue is choppy and disconected (ie you go a long time without info, THEN get a heap of exposition, which can refer to things hours ago or even 800 years ago) Must use mouse for camera and action, so you can't rotate camera with WASD, and attack with mouse (keeping in mind the age of the game this makes sense, but still an issue) It's VERY difficult, you have great powers, but magic (blood) is very $$$$ and you can't let loose and enjoy the powers you have, Instead you have to click click click, stab stab stab, and hope for the best which is basically ineffective as the game progressess. The writing is great, but it's poorly executed, the story is good, but it's doled out in bits and pieces and ham fistedly. If you have no idea about the story behind this... I still don't.. the big Question is: IS THIS A GOOD RPG? Answer: no. Even for its age it's OK at best, better RPG's since. I only kept going because of good characters and story, but it feels like a chore. NOTE: good ratings (4/5 stars) are from people who like the back story/franchise.... so ONLY get when it's VERY cheep, or not at all. Shame, had good potential.

For a bit of context I played a bit of VtM: Bloodlines and I was so mind blown by the game that I bought this one in order to play the serie from the beginning. Well it's a disapointement, the story seems great but the game is unplayable : the pathfinding is awful, the enemies AI is bad (sometimes you just spend 5 minutes chasing a fleeing enemie that you can't reach), your party is, in the best cases, useless because the AI will just Leroy Jenkin everything, uses all its blood and then dies. The gameplay is like a biological car crash between Diablo and Witcher 1 with a crap AI and sadly there isn't a mod that fixes everything like we can find in some games. I strongly suggest you don't play this games as it as aged terribly (and it's not a matter of graphics which are ok) except if you're extremely nostalgic. I'm hate dropping game and can be resilient but I'll just go back to VtM: Bloodlines. At least the port is good and the games works well with modern computers.
