Worse voice-acting ever.

Say this to yourselves in the voice of the fat guy from the Simpsons and... Now you get it. Writing is terrible, movement implementation sucks, many skills are realized is an unpractical, annoying or unbalanced way (use alchemy to get a billion in every stat or combine 100000 cheap swards into one, cheap+++ sword some how). Admittedly, I didn't keep playing for long, I gave up after the begging - some struggle between two clans about a mine or something, either the plot was written or the voices acting was done by a guy on crack - the result is completely illegible, also you have a Morrowind style faction reputation level that you cannot get beyond 6 (max is 10), probably because of cut content - and some of the pre-middle - you meet some guilds, a necromancer, and stuff. I was suppose to go a long way and get to the capital, but it was too awful a game to keep playing. From an exploration point of view it is big and empty, and what you do find is boring. Some say it gets better later, but I saw my brother keep playing and it really doesn't. Avoid like a plague of burning zombie alien roaches who don't use deodorant. Should be on BOG, there should be a BOG for this title specifically.

Question

I owned Two Worlds back in the day and I enjoyed it after the 1.6 patch I think it was. Still had some of the well known issues and the epic bad voice acting but I even enjoyed that. Here's where it went directly downhill. I reinstalled the game. Later I had to rebuild my computer once and then at a later point replaced a hard drive for the blisteringly fast (at the time) Velociraptor. I had to call to get a code for each reinstall. The last time, after the new hard drive, I was refused. Yea, refused. Refused and told I'd have to either buy the game again or pay for the new activation code, don't recall which it was but it amounts to the same thing. Who wants to re-buy your game every time you format or replace a drive? My question, is the GOG version still dependent on this activation code system every install/reinstall? Or is this eliminated with the magic of GOG? I wouldn't mind playing this game again in a finished state but there's no way I'm going through that kind of stupidity again. If someone could point me in the right direction here I'd be grateful.

Boring open world

reminded me of Morrowind, but with better graphics and a flat story. Well the story wouldn't be so bad if you didn't have to go through multiple random sidequests for the story to be flushed out. Because it is an open world, there is a strong chance to miss these sidequests which makes the story better. They missed some good story and gameplay opportunities throughout the game such as the battle of Ashos which was left out and the quest for the catapult triggers where the orcs could have been sieging. Everything is based on you and not concurrent; the seige should be in progress and the karga and the house battling openly against each other. I think that's why I rank it so low, not because of the clunky horse system or the inefficient UI navigation, even the voice matching to the models, that's understandable because those are technical difficulties, but don't try to pretend you are something when you are not.

Makes a poor first impression, but not a bad game

Basically I can sum up my feelings about this game in one sentence: "If the developers had spent as much time and money on the rest of the game as they did on the soundtrack and game mechanics, this game could have been great instead of merely OK". That doesn't mean it's a bad game, but it does leave a lot to be desired in some specific areas and although the game has been polished (from what I understand it was a mess at launch) there are still some residual bugs and annoyances. The main bugs I encountered included occasionally getting stuck in/on objects, usually while mounted. The lategame cutscenes all didn't play for me, even though the one at the start of the game did. Also when I used one of the ingame trainers to reset my skillpoints, the skillpoints were returned to me without the previously spent points being wiped, effectively creating a major exploit in the game. The other very irritating issue is that the game experiences a lot of short freezes and stutters that are the direct result of the game accessing the harddrive to load objects, textures and npc's at the last minute. On lower end systems with low RAM that's to be expected, but on a high end system it should be scaling up the RAM useage to pre-load more stuff into the memory, but instead of doing that it was constantly sitting at <1gb memory useage. The rest of the performance was as expected, though I noted that this game, like many others, forgot to include an option to enable Vsync ingame, so I had to force it on through my graphics drivers. I didn't experience any crashes or permanent freezes with the game, not even after alt-tabbing in and out a few times. Bugs and performance issues aside, the game underneath is quite playable. I though that most of the game mechanics were well thought-out. The ability to combine identical weapons and armor pieces into a single more powerful version is something I haven't seen before in other games and it was very useful, especially early on in the game when you aren't able to carry as much junk yet. The upgrade stones add a serious damage bonus to your weaponry, but are plentiful enough and easy enough to create through alchemy that you don't have to be afraid of wasting them (which IMHO is how it should be). The alchemy system is very neat, though it may take a bit of trial error to find out how to get the most out of it (that is if you haven't looked it up first), but I actually like that in a game, so this was a big plus to me. Another thing that impressed me was the sheer number of different weapon types and skins that you can find throughout the game, and some of them are very neat. The world itself is also reasonably diverse, at least once you get down south a bit and there tons of sidequests and random dungeons hidden all over the place. Unfortunately the enemy types and npc's aren't quite as diverse - you end up spending a lot of time fighting the same enemies and you'll see more than a few duplicate npc's running around, often even within the same town. The soundtrack accompanying the game is also surprisingly good, it's actually so good in places that I'm wondering if they didn't spend 99% of their budget on the music and that's why the rest of the game's 'presentation' is so poor. The story is pretty mediocre and uninspiring, the cutscenes were made using the ingame engine and don't really do much to flatter it, especially with the clunky animations. The dialogue is downright cringeworthy at times, with an overabundance of archaic terms and a writing style that just doesn't fit the voice-actors who are speaking the lines. The voice-acting itself also isn't very good - it's so bad at times it's almost funny, making you feel like you're watching a parody of the fantasy genre. And in some cases I even noticed the recording quality wasn't very high either, with some character's voices sounding distinctly muffled or hollow and very out of sync with other voice-samples. Summary: The game doesn't give players a very good first impression, with its poor voice-acting, uninspiring storyline and random assortment of lingering bugs and other niggles. However underneath that hides a very playable game, which can be really enjoyable if you're a big fan of the open-world / hack-and-slash RPG genre. I give it 3/5 stars because it's worth playing if you're a fan, but it has too many flaws to give it any more than that.

Am I on the wrong website?

It baffles me why this game even made it on GOG, but not as much as why the game has an user rating of 4/5. 0_o Did I miss something? Sorry, but this game is junk. The story is a moronic as it gets, the dialogs sound like they were written by a seventh grader and the actors are probably just acquaintances of the devs because I can't find any other excuse for how bad the acting is. Know how actors sound when they actually want to sound like bad actors? That's how they sound in this game. The gameplay or the quests are any better either. The fighting is just a click-fest, the quests mostly fetch quests and as mentioned before, the main quest isn't really any better. Overall, this is a pretty awful bad and relatively new game (haha, get it?); I cannot fathom why this got such high scores.
