A quality ARPG.

I've beaten Torchlight II in September of 2012 and have nothing but fond memories of it. This game is well on par with Diablo III, minus the cinematics. So far as I'm concerned it is definitely worth the price for the amount of fun you'll be getting out of it. It is also well crafted — I've encountered no bugs at all. Now, keep in mind, I don't know how much the game has changed in the past four years, but it was most likely improved if anything. If you are looking for a darker setting, consider Grim Dawn (on GOG) or Path of Exile (free.) If you want characters, lore, and story, consider the Incredible Adventures of van Helsing trilogy (on GOG.) There is also Victor Vran (on GOG,) though it feels like it's falling a wee bit short of van Helsing. That said, Torchlight II precedes all of them and is able to stand very well on its own. If you are looking for nice, cartoonish, mindless, light-hearted fun of slaughtering hundreds of thousands of enemies — this is your game.

Finally on my fav DRM-free site!

5/5, easily. I already had a DRM-free copy of Torchlight II (Win/Mac/Linux) via Humble Store, but grabbing the GOG release is every bit worth it. PROS: + Fast and fun gameplay. + Easy to pick up, but difficult to beat. + Visual aesthetic is appealing to RPG vets, while also inviting to casual gamers. + Online co-op and LAN co-op are are fun and accessible. Drop-in and drop-out with ease. + Variety out the wahzoo! 4 very distinct character classes, several Pets, a swath of weapons and armor, a ton of spells and summons to be discovered. + Looters paradise! Loot is plentiful and varied. + Enemies are fun to battle and very cool looking. + Windows, Mac, and Linux versions included. + Modest hardware requirements: almost ANY PC built after 2009 can run Torchlight 2. + Replay value by the boatload! From trying out different character classes to online co-op to New Game Plus (NG+). CONS: - Weak, run-o-the-mill story.

a flaw away from perfect

This is a game made by people who love games. The style and art direction are stunning, the story is coherent and well written and the game-play intuitive, fluid and surprisingly deep. You can easily lose track of a hundred hours here, more so with co-op (which is also a blast). My only qualm is with the game-play: as it is a Diablo-esque, by its nature it will eventually get grindy and repetitive. But that's one flaw and only after you have seen everything the procedural world of Torchlight has to offer (which is a lot: the levels are generated randomly and new elements are added as you scale up the difficulty, keeping things fresh for a long, long while).

They make a very satisfying thump

To Quote G'Kar - "By G'Quan, I can't recall the last time I was in a fight like that. No moral ambiguity, no .. hopeless battle against ancient and overwhelming forces. They were the bad guys, as you say, we were the good guys. And they made a very satisfying thump when they hit the floor." Torchlight is just *Fun*. Cartoonishly, violently, 'look Ma I'm carrying a hand cannon no I don't mean a big pistol I mean a large magitech handheld howitzer' *Fun*. If you're looking for a character driven RPG, hey, they have Morrowind, Baldurs Gate, Neverwinter Nights et al.. If you're looking for a depressing plot, Diablo. If you want kill with cartoonish mayhem, I believe we have you covered.

Fast paced action role playing game, made by the original team that made Diablo II, great atmosphere, gameplay and multiplayer coop with LAN support. Thank you GOG for this gem now finally DRM free!
