Mediocre at best
My big problem is how simplified the gameplay is. Most enemy weaknesses are just a simple "use this for +10%" more damage. It's all numerical and doesn't actually change the way you play. How cool would it be if there was an invisible enemy but you could brew a potion that gives you daredevil style sonic vision? That would be way more interesting than just a "numbers go up" bonus. Most of the talents are this way too, and a lot of the things you can do aren't very impactful. Bombs and signs never really felt like they did much for me, and the archery system is a complete waste of time. Each arrow hit doesn't even move enemy health bars visibily because the damage is so poor. That leaves swordfighting which is far and away the most effective and therefore most enjoyable aspect of the combat to the point where I just ignored everything else and did fine. But even then its pretty basic, just your standard light, heavy, block, parry, dodge roll system. No special stances or techniques for the most part. Ciri is a little more interesting because she gets spatial warp powers to augment her swordfighting, but it just feels kinda gimicky after a while. I wish they made the combat more tactical. Item management is also not a concern, once you craft something it just refills every time you rest and there are no consequences to resting. So prepping to fight specific monsters goes out the window. The story setup is also kind of tedious. Basically its go to three seperate places that are all level gated and look for clues. So obviously Ciri is going to be at the highest level area right? Yup. So much of the main story is just pointless side quests that don't accomplish anything. I liked the Bloody Baron storyline, but the rest was kinda meh. The one thing Witcher 3 does really well is make you feel immersed in a fantasy world. Playing it actually made me more intrigued about the books, whereas the previous two titles didn't accomplish that.

Was it worth waiting for GOTY edition?
Hell yes! I also got the 1st two books , The Last Wish, The Sword of Destiny from the witcher series and starting this game after reading those two books really changed my perspective over the game's story. Helluva combination!

Good Action Adventure with RPG Elements
Let's say it plain. CDPR is the new Bioware. And thus they haven't invented the wheel but they did a good job in evolving (along with Rockstar) the Open World Genre. There are a lot of things to like, the overall world, along with the art design of costumes and armor and of course the laconic main protagonist. Some Story elements are realy strong an emotional moving. On the other hand the main plot around Ciri lacks and also the War between Nilfgaard and Temeria left me rather cold. The small stories often outweigh the major plot. What I don't like though is the Assassins-Creed-like approach where the map is flooded with icons and unnecessary tasks. Also the crafting of potions feels rather dull and barely makes sense even in higher difficulty settings because fighting is way too easy. Though TW3 is indeed a beautiful game it has been dissapppointing to me that this game was the downgraded. If CDPR was deciding a downgrade inernally there wouldn't be much of a problem. But they along with some other Publishers pushed the sales of the xbox one and ps4 back then and promoted something that was technically not even possible on those platforms. And a foul aftertaste was the implementation of HDR for consoles but not on PC. All in all it's a good game and due to the lack of something similar a must play I guess.

The best RPG since mass effect 2
Witcher 3 GOTY edition is simply the best modern RPG to exist on the market, it has tons of content with the expansions and delivers an epic experience that make this game one of the best in it's genre. You have a great cast of characters and interesting NPC's that aren't generic cookie cutter people who exist in many other RPG's today, you want to find out more about them and won't skip the dialogue because it's actually interesting to listen to them, they blend well with the world itself and add to the story. Graphics are fantastic especially with the next gen updates which bring ray tracing and updated textures and models with some nice additions to the gameplay as well. Gameplay is fun and there are tons of quests to complete.
