Love this game

So I have 64-bit Windows 11, NVIDIA GEFORCE, and it took me a while to get the game to work. I will post what I did, in case it helps others (and in case i ever have to reinstall it myself :D). I updated (via notepad) the files per nikale21's post (steps 4 & 5), but I did not do the DXGL install; instead I did the following: Added the 3 files from the following link into the game's exe folder: https://github.com/elishacloud/dxwrapper/wiki/The-Settlers-IV (you can also put the editor files from the above github link into the editor folder to fix that as well) Then added the 5 files for WidescreenFix.zip from the following link into the game's exe folder: https://github.com/zocker-160/Settlers-IV-Patches/releases Many thanks to those who have helped create/update these files to make gameplay possible in 2024!

Desparately needs Windows 10/11 support

Yeah, I guess it is my fault for trying to play the game on Windows 11, but even with all the tips and third party tools it is impossible. Even with everything and managing to get into the game, it either crashed or showed only a back screen when loading a mission (music worked fine and I even heard the sounds of the menus when I clicked blindly around). I suppose support is dying out with Ubisoft releasing its History Edition but from the sound of it, even that one doesn't work out of the box. Sigh... it is weird, because Settlers 3 works flawlessly from GOG. So in the end, I saw myself forced to ask for a refund. Despite that, I have to emphasize my fondest memories of this game. I know, I know, the Settlers 2 purists are crying about their roads, but Settlers 3 and 4 replaces that with a lot of freedom to move units and fight where you want them to and have villages that just feel to grow organically. And it's an improvement to Settlers 3 in every aspect, with much more mission variety, improved (if still very basic) AI and absolutely gorgeous graphics. If it could only work on modern systems...

Classic game

Happy to report that it currently works on Windows 10 (at least my clean fresh install; although if you've reversed mouse scrolling, it'll be backwards in this game too.) Love this game - from the first Settlers back on the Amiga through the terribleness of Settlers II to the almost there goodness of Settlers III, this is the zenith of the Settlers canon. Engaging gameplay, functional graphics, and complexity up the wazoo - I'd consider using this game as a test for interviewing project managers, honestly. If ball juggling of supply chains isn't your forte, this will help you learn. Or make you smash your keyboard in frustation. What I wouldn't give for someone to give this a Stardew Valley style modern remake!

good game

i have played it 20 years ago i think, and now i playing it again, its very addicting game. And i have it working on windows 8.1 no problem. That is why i want to post my comment here.

Missed this game so much!

I am using Windows 10 and I can confirm that this works for me. I don't know if it's useful to mention that I have an Nvidia graphics card (970), you might need to tune your Nvidia Control Panel settings right though. As far as the game goes: I've loved it for a long time, can't wait to play it again after so long :D
