Description
The year is 1962 and the Cold War has the nation gripped by fear. A top-secret government unit called The Bureau begins investigating a series of mysterious attacks by an enemy more powerful than communism. As agent Carter, call the shots, pull the trigger and lead your squad in a gripping third-person tactical shooter set within a covert war to protect humanity from an otherworldly enemy.

Light Plasma Pistol
Early Bureau research into outsider weapons technology has yielded promising results in the form of a prototype light plasma pistol. Not as bulky as its Outsider predecessor, this compact weapon fires condensed bolts of plasma and boasts a vastly improved rate-of-fire, giving players an early edge in the secret war for humanity’s survival.

CodeBreakers
A top secret government communications facility responsible for intercepting and decoding the enemy’s transmissions has gone radio-silent. In a desperate attempt to turn the tides of the secret war, Special Agent Carter and his squad must investigate the incident, eliminate any threats, and make contact with personnel in order to bring the facility back online and make sense of the mysterious code.

Hangar 6 R&D
In the days leading up to the events of The Bureau: XCOM Declassified, Agent Nico DaSilva volunteers for a series of dangerous secret experiments to identify and treat a terrifying new pathogen. Maximize your combat skills and push your team to its limits to protect a friend from his own hallucinated terrors.

Action oriented tactical sci-fi gem

Wow, what a wonderful game. Due to some negative reviews I expected nothing. In former times I started to play one of the dos titles of x-com but I couldn't get into it. In this game you are right in the middle from the beginning to the end. I was sticked to the screen, you mean to feel the heart and soul of the programmers. The atmosphere is brilliant. I admire the graphic style and the setting in the fifties. The characters are persuading. I paid full price and it is worth every single cent. I had to repeat some of the missions again and again and even that brought extremely fun in comparison to most of the today games. The pure game mechanics work. The different attack styles of the crew members are fascinating. There are minor issues like to hear a lot of boring dialogues in the base. Would have been better to have this in text form instead. Nevertheless it has a nice story plot at all. I can't understand why republic commando was lavished with good reviews, in my opinion this tactical sci-fi shooter was much better. I wish they could progam a 3D fantasy game in this tactical action style.

Well I like it.

Too bad it's heavily overlooked because as far as the story goes I really did enjoy it and so did I enjoy the gameplay. And no I don't care it's not canon.

Enjoyable shooter

This is a solid game that will fit the bill if you want a fun cover shooter. It does its best to make its mechanics connected to XCOM, with a slow upgrade path into alien weaponry and a Mass Effect-like teammate control system. Ultimately, the attempts to tie into the franchise mechanically didn't work very well for me. Part of the problem is that while the game _wants_ you to rely on your AI teammates for that XCOM squaddies feel, the AI's competence varies a good deal. In the worst difficulty spikes - usually boss battles - it can be harder to try to keep your soldiers upright than to just go it alone and focus on staying alive yourself. I came to regard my teammates as walking distractions & power banks rather than associating any real character to them. The story is like most of the other aspects of the game, mostly mediocre, but solid and better than you might expect from what might appear to be a cynical franchise cash-in. Some real effort went into the plot and characters. The (mostly optional) between-mission conversations can feel a little disconnected from the corridor shooter that forms the meat of the game, but in the end I found it did provide a good atmosphere. There are even a few genuine twists that pleasantly surprised me. The writing felt like it did a better job making a connection with XCOM than the mechanics. Ultimately forgettable, but decent fun.

A novelty piece worth owning.

I will state up front that I haven't played this game to completion but what I have played so far has been enjoyable enough to offer a recommendation to any Xcom fan while it's currently on sale. (Don't pay full price for this.) It's a blacksheep in a series that already has a couple black sheep. This game received a good amount of backlash when it was revealed and rightfully so, I had skipped it until now. It's definitely not the way the series should have went, but as a one off novelty game, I appreciate it. They could have just fully went for a third person shooter here but they actually added a level of tactical choice to battles that is interesting and can even be very satisfying at times. You can pause time and issue commands to your group in battle to flank enemies, use special skill and the like. It's an interesting one off take of the formula. What you ultimately get is a kind of mish mash that doesn't really satisfy either itch for a third person shooter or a tactics game, but has hints of a good idea not fully fleshed out. It's not a hidden gem. You might even hate it but it's still an interesting piece of Xcom history. A look at what could have been. A look at the series trying to go for a wider audience and ultimately being shunned. Whether you play it to make fun of it, or find some genuine enjoyment. I think for any Xcom fan, it's worth trying and having in your collection.

Pretty good XCOM spin-off!

I love the original UFO: Enemy Unknown and have finished it multiple times. I've also really enjoyed the 2012 Firaxis reboot (it's actually one of my favourite strategy games ever). The Bureau is quite different from the two because it's not a turn-based strategy and it tells a bit different story. Does it mean it's a bad game though? Hell no! If you don't judge it by your expectations of "what an XCOM game should be", you get a really well made tactical shooter put in a semi-canon XCOM universe. PROS - pretty good combat system (once you get used to it if you've never played a game with similar mechanics) - challenging, well designed enemies - surprisingly immersive story with interesting characters and environments CONS - the checkpoint save system is seriously annoying - some of the fights can be pretty chaotic, leading to "unfair" deaths - using grenades and some combat abilities is quite clunky - occasional bugs (sometimes the subtitles don't match the audio or you can't use a certain object - nothing game-breaking and only happened few times during my playthrough but it is a minor flaw) - there's no way to display weapon stats so understanding which ones are the strongest is a bit of a guessing game I've finished the main game (on Veteran) in about 18 hours (completionst style) and I really enjoyed most of that time :)
