Truly a lot of fun

I was a bit too young to appreciate the Bard's Tale and while I have spent some time with the classic version, I never beat it, nor did I progress very far. I was more about Goldbox games at the time. But when the remastered triliogy came out, I had to try it. I gave it 5 stars, obviously I like it, but really strikes me about this game is how underneath the numerous quality of life improvments that they have made (automapping, freedom of view, tool tip descriptions of items and spells, the ability to sort spells into categories...) the pure CHARM of the game shines through. For those of us who do not have nostolgia of a time gone by, who are easily distracted by the lack of things we take for granted in more modern games, that charm, that innocent core of discovery, was easy to miss. I am very greatful for this version of the game that sweeps away the cobwebs and showcases what games are meant to be.

I'd like to thanks the Devs

Thanks for bringing out this piece of RPG History back to life. At the time the game was released in 1985, i was only 6 years old and didn't play to it until i was 10 or something. But still at that time as i am not an english native, it was hard for me to understand the mechanics of the game. Now at the age of 39 (soon 40... god -_-) and thanks to you devs, i finally completed the first ever RPG video game i tried back in time on C64 / Amiga 500. My experience is somewhat mixed as it was a real pleasure, and a pain in the ass at the same time :-D But anyway of course i'll give it a 5 on 5 ! I knew bard's tale was a HARD game, because back in time it was like that and we would spend hours and hours to finish a game. Talk about good money investment ;-) Thanks for the Automap, thanks for the Quicksave, for the man i am now with a family, these were great features as it allowed me to complete the game in just 38 hours. Now maybe i'll play to Bard's Tale 2... I kept my savegames anyway. Thanks for this little trip to my youth.

Excellent

Just finished all three games. This is an excellent enhanced version for the original games. It keeps the classical style, but adds user-friendly options as well. Thanks for inXile's effort. And I wish that there could be more enhanced/remake like this for other old games.

Classic games, updated well

Several hours of gameplay in, and this looks like a great example of how to update a classic game (or, in this case, series of games) so that they're considerably more player-friendly without changing the fundamental way they play. This is recognisably the same Bards Tale as appeared all those decades ago, but it's now much more mouse-driven, things are much speedier generally, and best of all the thing most classic dungeon crawlers are crying out for - an auto-map. I just really, really hope someone updates the Gold Box games to a similar quality.

Great quality of life improvements

It retains the feel of the originals, but the inclusion of automapping, quick save/load and a really usable spellbook makes this game way more enjoyable than the original C64 version I played ages ago. It's still grindy and at low levels it's still really unforgiving, but the improvments make this way more enjoyable to revisit.
