Captivating cyberpunk story

Something ominous is going on in the city-state of Newton. A mindjacker copies the minds of experts from widely differing fields and kills them. Newton's central AI assigns the case to Regis, an aging detective with scientific past, and Lao, an ever-sarcastic young tech wiz. Mysteries pile up. Someone starts to blackmail Regis. Central maintains that something Regis and Lao saw couldn't happen. And why on Earth would anyone want to assassinate Mandala, an unimportant unemployed VR addict? If you want your cyberpunk point & click adventures to excel in storytelling, you've just found the right game for you. If you play them for the puzzles, read on, but I practically beg you anyway: give Technobabylon a chance! It certainly deserves one. + Fantastic storytelling. Toward the end, I was on the edge of my chair, even though it's a P&C adventure - a game you play at your own pace! And I still get goosebumps whenever I think of the game's finale. + Real cyberpunk substance there, not just an action-filled story on a futuristic stage set. + Pixel graphics done right, giving the art a hand-drawn feel. + The game's divided into self-contained chapters with limited maps and doesn't flood your inventory, eliminating the usual adventure "use something you forgot you'd collected on the other side of Earth ages ago" problem. - Some of the puzzles are just bad design (and some very nice - but that should be a given in P&C games). Thanks to the previous point, it never stalls you for too long, but it's still the reason why I can't give Technobabylon five stars with clear conscience - even though I'd so much love to! + Polished. Minimum quirks, no bugs. + More than just the sum of its parts. The story, graphics, and music create a wonderful atmosphere that elevates the experience. Verdict: Do you like cyberpunk? Do you like stories and ideas that keep you returning to them in your mind long after you've finished the game? You. Should. Play. Technobabylon.

Engaging adventure for mind and senses

Interesting storyline w/o being too convoluted or obvious. Characters have depth despite limitation of game. Was not so hard that frustration ruins enjoyment. Still beautiful with retro look. Sound track is atmospheric and not redundant or annoying. I truly hope they really will release a sequel. Would love to see continuation of Regis and Lao dynamic, and development of Latha's character with Regis. Is mention of Birthright but have seen no further news ...

A modern classic for the genre!

This game is nothing short of amazing. It truely achieved every single goal it set for itself. The artstyle is gorgeous, the story (While not the best story I saw in the genre.) is well put together and keep you engaged in it the whole time. The puzzle are between simple and average in difficulty. With only a handful of them leaving you scratching your head which avoids a lot of frustration for the vast majority of the runtime. Truely a game born of passion and you can feel it in every moment. Do not listen to the clowns complaining about so called "SJW" stuff. They clearly didn't finish the game since, by the end, you get to understand it goes deeper than that. And for that, I am grateful. Thank you for the experience!

Fun and atmospheric

I liked the world of this game, with it's advanced technologies but gritty urban setting. The scientific/philosophical/social themes were interesting and the characters drew me in. The puzzles, like in many point-and-click games, were sometimes silly, depending on some seemingly arbitrary item or whatnot, but they were fun and I only had to cheat a few times where I was really stuck. Mostly I just enjoyed the laid-back, charming, retro style of gameplay and storytelling. Music was good too (except one part where one classical piece is played on endless loop.) Recommended if you like the cyber-punk genre and casual adventure games.

Just nearly misses greatness, still a 4

The puzzles that required creative thinking/ critical thinking were easy. I breezed through the puzzles. When I got stuck , it was never for lack of thinking. Examples: There is part of the game where you need to smash a antenna.... I didn't see it because it just blurs into the pixelated background art. So, I was a little stuck... (It wasn't a big deal but it was a silly reason to be stuck in a game...) It was referenced earlier in the game to be fair, but I didn't see it at first. There's a part where you're given cooking gel, and no where in the game does it tell you that you can adjust the temperature of the gel. You later put together that you have to right click it and then you can adjust the temperature....the item is in your inventory. You use it, as the puzzle requires. The game lets you use it on a hand, as you're supposed to, but it's too cold. So, you spend several minutes perhaps trying to raise the temperature, without ever being told you can adjust it manually, it just looks like a tube... You click on the item in your inventory and nothing happens. You have to right click on it in your inventory for anyting to happen, then you can adjust it... There's another part where you're in a factory and there's a computer that you need to use to turn off the power for factory systems. This computer has files on it, and emails... and a power button icon. Nothing anywhere suggests that this power button turns off the entire factory. One may assume that it simply turns the computer on and off....(Another segment that is un-necessarily unclear) I want to touch on the voice acting... It's mostly solid, but personally I found it grating a few times. The character Jinsil can be quite annoying with her computer sounding voice... Cheffe is intentionally annoying... I liked Regis and Max. As for the story, it's thought provoking, relevant SCIFI. It has some funny moments that any good adventure game has. I'd recommend it but it's not perfect.
