The bugs/ glitches are all over the place to the point that makes the game impossible to play. Such a shame to make it available to the public like this, this is worse than a beta test.
I finished the game just now. I finished playing the first two games a few years ago, hoping that this game was the same as those. It was a little disappointing, though I can see room for improvement and I enjoyed myself.
The controls are one of the things that frustrated me the most, it's not often that I complain about something like this in an adventure game, it feels like the game was made for consoles. Clicking on your destination sometimes work and sometimes don't. A few times I even had problems with the camera as it wouldn't move like it should. So I needed to load the game from an old save file to continue. Luckily it saves automatically, so it wasn't that far but still. I'd rather prefer the static images of the first two games. Beautiful areas as well. This is something than can use a lot of improvement.
Then the second part the voice acting. As many already told, the voice acting doesn't add up. An old man with a young man's voice. That doesn't add up. found it even more disappointing that the lines of text don't match up with the subtitles. Sometimes a word is missing, or even a whole chunk of dialog. Also especially in the beginning I noticed that the mouth's of the NPC's didn't match with the text. But to end with a positive term, I'm glad they got the original voice actor for Kate Walker again. Oscar's voice actor has been replaced, at first it was a bit getting used to, but in the end I liked him.
The graphics are nice for the game, I think that's the reason they went for the 3d. At one point in the game there was a bit of problem with lightning, but it looked good.
Then the story. It continues the story of Kate Walker helping the Youkols again. It was good, though I wished they show more of how Kate is dealing with the situation. The music is very good too.
If I have to summarize, if you're a fan of the first two, you need to play this game. The story will help you go through it with the music. I hope the next part will be even better.
First off, in spite of all other flaws, the soundtrack for this game is gorgeous, a real treat to get the atmosphere going! I approached this game with the expectation of all the challenges other people had mentioned game play wise with point & click camera angles mashed with 3rd person movement, plus and graphics issues. They are definitely there, plus some strange NPC voice acting choices.
But after having played Syberia 1 & 2, couldn't help but want to get back into Benoît Sokal's world again for the continuation of Kate Walker's story. That was my main focus in my playthrough - the story and the world, and just persisting through issues this game has.
Definintely one to wait for a sale to snag, and experience with a controller is slightly better than mouse & keyboard. But if you are a Syberia fan and you come in with the right expectations, the game's issues will be an annoyance but they won't stop you from experiencing the world.
I love Syberia series, because it was my starting point to adventure genre. Well, to be honest I don't play this game for long time, because I know that this game is bad, buut I didn't expect sooo bad experience in every aspect.
Visual (4/10) Graphics is average, at least we have new Kate and Oscar models, but locations looks really terrible. It feels that everything except Kate and Oscar just bad copy paste dev models, that should be replaced. I liked only one location - park in Baranour, it reminds me set of locations from first Syberia.
Music is also average, not so bad, but we listen only 1-2 similar songs and ambient theme all game, so for me it feels annoying.
Interface - it was pain in my "back" all the time. All game time I spend just to point proper way to location. At the Olimpia level I even restart game several time because I get to dead end and don't understand how I should point Kate way out. Even more if you can handle with your way - you will face with lots of bugs with bag and interaction circles.
Gameplay (5/10) Gameplay is awfull - locations are badly designed. You can run through several just empty screens for nothing, almost everything is badly scripting - for example in latest location on the bridge you need to speak on ALL themes with Kurk, before custom oficer will came. On the other hand I think some puzzles are really fun to solve, especially last one and puzzle with mirrors. Adding more mouse controls to open smth or turn is very controversal I also don't like this part very much because of pure in game realization.
Story (2/10) One point for Kate and another one for Oscar. Story is ridiculus, with lots of confusing moments, so if you like Syberia, you should be prepared that story was written by 12 year old teen as fandom.
All in all, instead of great adventure as Syberia was originaly, you just play with some puzzles and saw Kate and Oscar one more time, just to prepare yourself befor final Syberia chapter.
The game is good but it has quite a few things that don't suit it.
The camera is sometimes not the best, and some points where you can interact do not always appear and you have to be playing with the mouse and moving. In addition to some problem in the animations. I feel that a large part of it is due to the change from 2d to 3d.
Putting those things aside and it's worth it to be back in the world of Syberia and something else that I won't comment on for the sake of spoilers.
I liked it, but I recommend getting it on sale, not at full price.
