STAR WARS™ Rebellion

I have also put 100's of hours into this game. It is one of my all time favorites. The thing I love most about it is that the game randomizes who will and wont be force sensitive... Jedi Chewbacca? Yeah, that can happen! My least favorite thing about the game is, and always has been, the AI. Even on the hardest difficulty, the AI is predictable, systems are easy to conquer, and, when your opponent is the Empire, the AI never builds the Death Star :( Not once, in the hundreds of games that I've played as the Rebels, has the computer ever built it. Otherwise, this game is a pure classic.

Star Wars has a lot of potential when it comes to 4X and it surprises me that this is not exploited. If you want a good 4X-game, there are plenty of options. If you want a Star Wars 4X game, there is literally no other option than Star Wars: Rebellion. Sure, you got Empire at War that has some 4X elements but it's pretty light weight. Early to midgame are fine, build up resources and expand territory. Late game is really dull because once one side starts rolling and harasses the opponent, that side quickly dominates the board. Technically it runs fine except the 3D battles. Odds are you're gonna need dgVoodoo to get the visuals correct.

Loved this game some 30 years ago. Fun to pay it again. However, keeps crashing, every 4 to 5 hours or so. Not playing nice with my little laptop. Save often.

For the graphics bug, I uninstalled and reinstalled the game. This fixed the upside down graphics bug I got after installing windows 10. I have spent way too many hours of my life playing this game. I was overjoyed when I saw it on GOG, and immediately bought it. Rebellion is still fun to play after all these years. Unlike most space based 4X games there is no limit to the amount of ships you can have in a fleet during actual combat. You can have a fleet of 8 super star destroyers and escort vessels along with hundreds or even thousands of fighters. Each squadron of fighters represents 12 fighters, and the game keeps track of how many fighters are currently in the squadron. Fighter losses in a squadron will be replaced automatically as long as one fighter remains alive. Fighter replacement is much faster if fleet is at a planet with a shipyard. The amount of ships you can build overall depends on the number of mines and refineries you own. 1 mine and 1 refinery gives you 50 points. Ship cost vary per ship type. A Victory class star destroyer cost 68 points while an Imperial class SD cost 112 points, with each fighter costing 3 to 5 points each. Some ships such as star destroyers, carriers, and transports can carry fighter squadrons and ground troops. The amount varies per ship type. An Imperial class SD can carry 6 fighter squadrons and 3 regiments of soldiers, while a Victory can hold 2 fighter sq. and 1 regiment. Each planet can support a certain number of resources such as mines, refineries, shipyards, troop training centers, and construction yards. So a planet with 12 resource potential can have 12 structures built on that planet. Core systems on average have about 10-14 resources potential. Rim systems have much lower averages, usually about 4 to 8 on average, but some planets will have high resource potential like core system worlds, but these are not common. There are also hero units in the game, such as Luke Skywalker. They perform a variety of missions.
