A deeply atmospheric platformer

After the Battle for Bikini Bottom remake (2020) and the slightly off-beat Cosmic Shake (2023), developer Purple Lamp has perfected their SpongeBob platforming formula with this third entry. The return of Patrick as a playable character and the careful addition of new game mechanics already make this game excel in the mascot 3D platformer genre. Their faithful approach to recreating the humor of the show and the story beats of a typical episode continues in this installment, cementing the small Austrian studio's status as just about the perfect handlers of the SpongeBob license. The dynamic music, still handled by some of the same composers as the original Battle for Bikini Bottom from 2003, takes a notable step up together with the overall sound design. Patrick's sound effects especially feel very satisfying, and the jazzy soundtrack adapts its instrumentation according to the character played and the setting of the level. The graphical presentation makes use of Unreal Engine 5's new lighting system, thereby taking the slightly more open sceneries to a new level. But where this game really shines and goes from great to almost perfect, is in its story and atmosphere. Whereas Battle for Bikini Bottom had a rather basic background plot leading the characters to well-known set pieces from the cartoon, and The Cosmic Shake stuck to putting a new twist on these already established areas with a slightly more involved plot, Titans of the Tide not only features a fully developing story arc over the course of its 6-8 hour runtime, it also expands the SpongeBob universe through adding new lore for lesser-known characters like the Flying Dutchman and King Neptune, as well as by taking place in areas that are either completely new (like Goldfish Island) or have never been explored thoroughly in the show (like Neptune's castle). Titans of the Tide explores these new areas with such a sense of charme and creativity, that it really feels like a playable SpongeBob movie.

Does Not Support Cloud Saves

The game is lots of fun! Charming, full of delightful animation, and fun platforming so far with juuust enough challenge to keep me on my toes. I just want to point out that this game does NOT support cloud saves through GoG, unlike the previous two entries (Cosmic Shake and Battle for Bikini Bottom). Not sure why this game specifically is unsupported, I hope it can be addressed in an update. Runs great on Steam Deck by installing GoG Galaxy with Bottles!

My first play through and i do like it

I am giving this game a 10 out of 10, this game is made for SpongeBob fans new and old the like, it got so many Easter Eggs, from both SpongeBob Show and most if not all the SpongeBob movies, there is about 2 time the Game quality around a characters like Mr. Krabs and Plankton was not the best, it actually felt like i am playing the Show/Movies From it i actually like how it felt, Even how it started felt like I am watching or in this case playing an episode of SpongeBob the story is there and SpongeBob TOTT gameplay is actually good and it got a good laugh from this old SpongeBob fan, i do recommend it and i really do think SpongeBob TOTT may get former SpongeBob fans back being SpongeBob fans again, SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide is a good game to play, will I still replay it? yeah I still will replay it

Awesome game! Please include cloud saves

I just finished my first playthrough, the graphics are great, I loved the music and the BFF swap mechanics. The only thing missing is the cloud saves!!

High Tide, Brief Stay

Titans of the Tide is an excellent experience that delivers far more polish than I had initially expected. The graphics, music, and core swap mechanics are all top notch. Visually, the game is consistently striking, with strong art direction and solid technical presentation. The soundtrack complements the atmosphere perfectly, enhancing exploration and combat without ever feeling intrusive. Mechanically, everything feels tight and intentional...movement, combat, and progression all work together smoothly and make the game genuinely fun to play. That said, there are a few drawbacks worth mentioning. The biggest issue is the lack of any tracking system for collectibles, which makes completionist runs more frustrating than they need to be. In addition, there is occasional UE5 traversal stutter, particularly when moving quickly through certain areas. It’s not constant, but it is noticeable. My other main complaint is that the game feels a bit too short. What’s here is very high quality, but I would have loved more content or a longer campaign to fully capitalize on the excellent foundation. Overall, Titans of the Tide is a highly polished and enjoyable title that’s easy to recommend, especially if you value strong presentation and refined gameplay. With a bit more length and some quality-of-life improvements, it could have been something truly exceptional. Recommended.
