The pinnicale title of classic shooters.

Amazing gore, amazing graphics "for the time" sof plus mod fixes all issues with modern hardware. -dinput and in_mouse 2 is needed for the mouse issue. Otherwise controls are a breeze although a tad archaic due to its age. (namly number select being off) Just buy it. The level design can be a tad confusing but its sooooooo fun. Just blast arms off and get stuffed with pizza. Good times garanteed.

fun and fast paced shooter action!

Soldier of Fortune is a pretty straight foward early 00's FPS, but with the added gimmick of gore. It does its job, and it does it fairly adequately. The storyline is a fun paramilitary romp. The gameplay is still perfectly playable by today's standards. There's a variety of guns that kill people in different ways. It's a fairly simple and average game, but simple and average is good. It's an safe bet if you want to play an old style of FPS before the days of digital knife collections and dancing emotes. I'm giving this a rock solid 3/5 for being as average as it gets, but I'd bump that up to a 4/5 if you like cheesy gore effects.

One of my favorite old-school shooters.

The game is great. It has this specific 90's shooters atmosphere. Solid features as limb damage, kind of randomly generated enemies , quake 2 engine solidness, enjoyable old-school game play. But think twice before buying this. This this owned by Activision. Probably a big share of the money will go for the Robert Kotick's annual bonuses. This parasite does not deserves even a penny more in his wallet.

Somehow still good

The story is mostly trite, most maps are very linear and some enemies, especially bosses, are really bullet spongey without much feedback as to whether you're causing them any damage at all. Still, the variety in settings, the punchy weapons and the fire fights overall makes this worth a playthrough today. The game works fine on Windows 11 now.

Just as great as 20 years ago

I was afraid to play this game again after 20 years... I had great memories of it and didn't want to destroy them. Fortunately, Soldier of Fortune aged surprisingly well and GOG version works flawlessly. When I started playing, I just couldn't stop until I completed it few evenings later :) There aren't many THAT absorbing games nowadays :) And the "Hard" difficulty from 20 years ago is a REALLY hard compared to these "hard(ish)" difficulty levels from current games :D
