How to get it working...

If your game won't run (which is likely if you're on a modern OS), you need to patch it. Here's what you need to do. 1. Install game. 2. Download SoFplus client version (as of this review the latest version is called sofplus-client-patch-20140531-gog.zip) 3. Extract it into your game's directory. 4. Find "sofplus-client-patch.cmd" in your game's directory and run it. 5. Press any key. 6. Find "sofplus-client-20140531.zip" in your game's directory and run it. 7. Extract it into your game's directory (same location as SoF.exe) and hit "yes" when it asks to overwrite any files. 8. Now find "SoF.exe" and make a copy of it in your game's directory. 9. Rename the copied exe (don't rename the original exe file!) to mohaa.exe. 10. IMPORTANT: You must run the game from mohaa.exe from now on, so make a shortcut to it if you like. 11. Enjoy :)

Amazing FPS from my childhood. Anyhow try changing SoF.exe to mohaa.exe. It should launch. Weird fix, I know.

The only one worth playing

Nearly a perfect game. Unfortunately, the other ones in the series are not worth playing at all. This one is the one to go with.

It finally works!

Give this one a shot if you haven't already. It's a fast-paced and fun first person shooter with a colorful (almost comic book) style. It's not your usual military shooter, and there is some unique characters and weapons. Like all great first person shooters, it just feels good to play and is very cathartic. This version has been recently patched, so you can finally run it on windows 10. Also, the SOF Plus patch is available online for multiplayer. There are still some people who play it!

The game to make your parents worry

This is the closest any game has come to the feel of 1980s American action films, especially the ones starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. It has excessive violence, over-the-top plot, one-man-army action. Said violence is the game's focus and fairly unique selling point, boasting surprisingly many hit-zones (outside of SoF's sequel, I can't think of any other game that differentiates in its reaction animations between a shot to the head and to the neck, for instance) and easy dismemberment. You can enjoy a sight of an enemy clutching his leg, hopping after a shot in the foot, or "dancing" under SMG fire. I would've given the game 5 stars, but I had minor technical issues with controls. Mainly, they seemed at times floaty or had lag spikes somehow connected with, well, connectivity: they would get the worst while the game was showing an icon with an unplugged ethernet cable. Also, sometimes when strafing or moving through narrow spaces, the game would "add" another direction to the buttons I was supposedly pressing (e.g. the character also moving back while I was trying to strafe to the side).
