A diamond in the rough

Although dated by standards of video and audio rendering, today and at the time of release, Seven Kingdoms: Ancient Adversaries hallmarked the conventions of the modern RTS while, sadly, receiving little recognition from the gaming community. Targeted at the thinking gamer, the Seven Kingdoms series rewarded the player with the freedom and burden of choice. Your playing style can accompany your desire to pilot technological, economic, military and social dimensions with full scalability, but without unnecessary complexity. Imagine inciting a trade embargo on another kingdom or creating a materials shortage through a carefully constructed chokepoint on precious resources. Picture complex social arrangements with foreign kingdoms and independent villages, each with equipped with spies and rebels. Envision a cutthroat race for the most seasoned militia or the rush for the state-of-the-art galleons and war machines. If you have played modern RTS games and been disappointed by the shallow sandbox, it's time to step back a decade in gaming history, to experience what is easily the most intricate platforms of our time.

A great game I spent many hours playing.

Tldr: A very slim-lined game with many features, poor AI is a negative, but the game is still fun to play. This is a fun strategy game that I have spent many hours playing and can still come back to and play again and again. It is a very slim lined strategy game containing multiple races with special abilities, unit progression, espionage, research, trading, war-machine production and population control as well as god summoning. All of which are very well integrated with very little extra fluff. My major complaint about this game is the enemy AI, it isn't great.

My Favorite Game Ever!

I bought the original Seven Kingdoms in 2002 and played it even years later 10 to 15 hours a week until the disk blew up in my harddrive in September 2011. Went to find it online and discovered GOG and had no problem paying the $5.99. Ancient Adversaries is a little more involved with the aditional 3 kingdoms and a couple of the new kingdom units look too close to those of the existing kingdomsI was used to, but it still plays well and I get my 10-15 hours in.

An old favorite still shines

I was a big fan of both Seven Kingdoms titles, but liked the first one better. Now, thanks to Trevor Chan, the game has become open source and is available as 7kaa (and is in the Ubuntu repos). I still recommend buying the game from GOG if only to (hopefully) give Trevor a few more bux, and to get the essential manual.

This game is old and a Solid diamond.

One of the best rts you will ever find on the planet. old yes yes it is but it has some of most amasinz technology ever created that aktually works diplomatics and stuff. amasing game for its time and even to this date it has tech that no one mastered.
