A frustrating experience...

This could have been just the game I needed at the moment, but my enjoyment started deteriorating quickly. At first it was that neither the use/pick up, nor the shout function is not implemented smoothly: after playing about two hours I still fail to pick up or use objects on the first try. It looks like to do it properly you have to get very close to the object while facing it, wait a second, then press the corresponding key. Throwing objects can be rather annoying too. And then there is the question of making the character to hang off a ledge before him. Looks like he only does that in particular places. The next thing is rather traditional for console games (and this one, if not a port, is at least a console game in its heart, which is not a bad thing per se), and that's the camera being wonky at times. Well, at least that doesn't happen often. The puzzles themselves are rather poor and obscure, but I could tolerate that and all of the other points I mentioned above... if it wasn't for a specific attempt by the developers to make the game challenging after realising the puzzles like these won't hold the player off the goal for long. I have now idea who is that brave soul that decided it was entertaining to run around pathways over a chasm in darkness with very little indication of where you can possibly go (which is only visible when you are running), but I would love to see that person try doing the same in real life. Coupled with an absense of a proper save system, you can imagine how "fun" this is. Not to mention that if you stop, it gets almost completely dark and you might lose any idea of where could you be at the moment. By the looks, the music and the general atmosphere, this is pretty much a masterpiece. I'd give it 5 stars easily despite the typical console game flaws I mentioned in the beginning. But this running around and falling off ledges in darkness killed the game for me, sorry. Not sure if I'll ever going to give it another try.

Wat?

Why is this so highly rated? This is just a sub-par platformer with a pretentious atmosphere. I can tell it's desperately trying to make me feel something, but honestly it's just making me confused. I understand the plot twist/revelation at the end but... why? This feels like it was written by a highschool student trying really hard to be "deep." If the gameplay was good I could forgive this but honestly it's so "meh" that it's forgettable. I didn't even pay for this game, I got it in a humble bundle and I'm still kind of mad at it simply for wasting my time. Don't get this game unless you're the type of person that pretends to like abstract art.

Platforming distilled into art.

This is a game that definitely has an audience that should pick up a controller and play. It is a title that emphasizes platforming exploration and related platforming puzzles before all else and does so very well. It even does so with a strong vision, atmosphere, and world to apply it all to, making for a really great package to play. However, it also does so at the sacrifice of just about everything else, resorting to flash scenes between sections of the game to explain why you are even there in the first place and there is almost no threats to keep you on your toes at any point during your adventure. The result is a very relaxing game which, provided you are not looking for some serious action or monsters to blow up, you will likely be able to sit back on the couch and enjoy. But this is also a relatively brief game, as I finished it in about 6 hours taking my time with it. It is actually a great length of time for the game itself, as everything stays long enough to keep interesting, but not overstay it's welcome. But as a total package, it seems a bit steep for the asking price of $30. I would say if you like exploring and finding new ways to find your way around an environment, its worth getting, but get it on sale if you can just due to the length.

BAD OPTIMIZATION - DO NOT BUY ON PC

I don't own a gaming PC, but my laptop is fairly decent and can run stuff like The Witcher 3 smoothly (not maxed out, of course). My specs are: Intel i7-5500 @2.40 GHz 2.39GHz, 8GB Ram, Nvidia GeForce 940M with 2GB of DDR3 Vram. This game is apparently very taxing on the CPU, to the point it is the only game that overheats it to the point my laptop shuts down. I managed to solve this problem by lowering the CPU power intake, but the performance is terrible. As long as I'm in enclosed spaces, I can reach the 30fps mark, but as soon as I step into an open area... welcome to chugtown! Keep in ming it chugs like crazy on the lowest settings too! The game looks cool, but if you really want to play it, buy it on console (it runs like crap on Switch too, so go for the PS4/Xbox One version).

So... Yeah, I cried.

Not gonna lie... This game was a tearjerker for me. The story, though wordless, conveys a lot of symbolic truth when you go back and actually think about the game once your done. I lost a son a few years ago, so this game hit a little close to home. I'm not sorry, though, as it was refreshing to see the symbolism at work. It's an excellent portrayal of the stages of grief that one goes through when a loved one is lost. Story aside, the game plays very well also. It reminded me heavily of Shadow of the Colossus, but without the Colossi. Huge areas to explore. Seclusion and atmosphere, but with a similar graphic style as Wind Waker. I loved how the game looked and felt. The controls were smooth as well. The game relies heavily on story telling through puzzle solving. No puzzle was mind-breaking that I recall, and your character can't die... So it was very, very relaxing to play. The musical score is fantastic as well, which worked great with the ambiance. There are a ton of collectible items to find along the way, too. So, if you like collecting things this would be right up your alley. Take your time and free-roam each area to it's fullest and you'll find items that affect the ending as well! All together a wonderful experience that lasted me about seven to eight hours. (I could have explored more, and I did not find all the hidden items. So the game could last you a few more hours potentially.) I highly recommend this game, especially if you've lost a loved one. The story is one that you can connect with, and it might just help you sift through some of your own feelings as well.
