Still valuable, but not the same

Upon launch, the game seems like its good ol' self. But as soon as it's played the lack of the original soundtrack is indeed noticeable, and it really is a shame. This doesn't only affect the background music, but also some sound effects that are either cut short or missing frequencies. Furthermore, the levels are not entirely the same. The way they are organized differs, and some, like the first Bongo hills level has details which i haven't previously encountered when playing the original PS game. The game is still fin to play, as it is a great game, but the missing music, which is a huge part of the experience, is detrimental to the enjoyment.

Fair vs Fun?

**Disclaimer (I have never played the old Rayman series) First Impression: I went into this game blind, and man this game is misery. I like a challenge, but I dislike games that make you die (to see hidden platforms etc) so you can progress. Visuals **** (nice and nostalgic, but some of it blends together too much; spikes vs platforms etc) Controls *** (not as tight as I would have expected, poor collision detection) Sound **** (solid all around) Story **** (Interesting world, very enjoyable and funny too) Fun Factor * (yeah, this game just isn't much fun for me.) While I know some folks enjoy insanely difficult games, I can't help but feel it takes the fun out of why I sit down to play games in the first place. Endless repetition/memorization isn't my idea of a good time, but more power to those that find it enjoyable. Color me disappointed, I expected a more well rounded game.

Retro Action with 100% Adrenaline

I have to admit, that this is the 1st time I'm playing Rayman 1, although I have always loved the series and franchise and played a lot of the Rayman games especially the GBC versions of Rayman 1&2. This game is beautifully designed and full of new Ideas and great gameplay. But don't be fooled: although it may seem very childish, it is a little difficult and may need your full attention. If you want a game, without Rabbids and the full Rayman effect, you have to buy this game. And by the way: I would hug everyone of GOG.com, if Rayman 2 would be released here, because I waited a long time for Rayman 1 to be released here.

serious sound problems windows 8

Game have big issues on modern day computer running windows 8, blocky sound problems. Doesnt work well with 64 bit os.

Excellent Game, Shame about the Music

One one hand Rayman is an absolutely timeless game, and this is the cheapest that you're going to find a legit copy of the DOS version. On the downside, one of the most timeless aspects of Rayman is the soundtrack, and unfortunately this version does not include it. The music is such an important aspect of the game's atmosphere that levels can feel empty without it. It's still Rayman, so it's definitely still worth a purchase, but I can't give this edition a perfect score without the soundtrack. Buy a physical copy of the original release if you're serious about getting the full experience.
