I really wanted to like this
But don't. Land. Move slowly and with the worst initial weapon in any game ever. Open door, Move slowly. Kill some strog. Get a better weapon. Open door, Move slowly. Kill some strog. Get another weapon. Open door, Move slowly. Kill some strog. Find a switch. Kill some strog. I really enjoyed Quake 2, but I'm having a hard time continuing with this.

FIne, but not as good as the others
Full disclosure: I didn't like Quake II. The gunplay didn't hook me like the first one, and the dull enemy and level design only lessened my interest. Quake IV is a direct sequel to that game. So, is it better or worse?...well, I feel about the same way about this one. I actually took the time to beat this one, which is more than I can say for Quake II, so I guess that's saying something. Also, I am basing this review on the Steam version. In terms of aesthetics, Id Tech 4 has aged reasonably well for an engine from that era (assuming you changed the .cfg file for the HD textures). They really amped up the body horror for the Strogg, which in all honesty I didn't care for. I tend to be pretty squeamish about this sort of thing. In terms of level design, it hasn't improved much. Everything still looks and feels the same. Gunplay is much slower than other Quake games, at least until about halfway through when THAT event happens. If you've played it, you know the one I mean, and even after that it feels a little slow. As for the feel, everything feels pretty good for the most part. The big problem here is that it often doesn't feel quite Quake-y enough for me. Once you aren't on foot though, the vehicle and turret sections take way too long, and aren't any good. So that's a problem. In conclusion, if you liked Quake II, you will probably like Quake IV. As for me, it's just not my thing.

It was going great after looking up a graphics fix. But it always crashes at the MCC landing site after boarding. I've looked up fixes on the internet but nothing works. Even using the console to load the next level. Sure would like to finish it.

AMAZING!
This is a classic! Honestly it's just as i remembered. Not many things like movies or video games age well. But this is one of those that did!. I cannot recommend this enough to people who played it years ago and want to give it a second try. Or people who are fans of the doom franchise. I am almost done with this game, and i want to give it a second go already XD! :D... If you have never played this game, i don't know if you'll like it. Specially with newer titles like doom 2016 or doom eternal. You might feel like this game is outdated or it's too slow. Or whatever other complaints you might have. But if you want to give it a go then go for it. ! :D Hopefully you'll like it. Honestly this only thing bad about this game, has to be the darkness. But I've always thought that, I'm just nitpicking by now xD. Great game!!!! Love it!!
