Awesome!

Deadfire is an amazing second installment of Pillars Of Eternity. The many new or retooled systems are well implimented, such as ship resource management, island exploration, sea exploration, relationships, and multiclassing. While there is plenty of combat, Obsidian did a great job of having a lot of innovative/nonviolent ways to handle many of the situations you encounter. It feels like there is a lot more voice acting in Deadfire than in the first game, and the soundtrack is really beautiful and well done. My biggest complaint is that there isn't more of it! I've sunk well over 100 hours into the game and haven't yet finished it, but I feel like 1) there are serveral areas/factions where there is room for elaboration/expansion of quests & story, and 2) I don't want the fun to end! My second-biggest complaint is that some of the questlines are a bit buggy, especially if you get farther ahead with one faction's quests than the others. I'm confident that is something that will be addressed soon in a patch, though, and there are enough quests to keep me otherwise occupied. Some people's complaints don't seem to take into account the fact that Obsidian is a smaller developer without the backing of the EA hegemony. Is the game perfect? No. But I have played the crap out of it anyway and enjoyed every bit of it. I, for one, am happy to know that my money is going to a smaller developer. Its pretty clear that Obsidian poured their hearts into this game and I am happy to help support their efforts! If you enjoy isometric RPGs with a strong roleplaying element, you will likely enjoy this game. I'd suggest playing Pillars of Eternity first if you haven't, though, since this game is based in the same world with several of the same companions -- gives a lot more context to your interactions with many of the npcs, recent history, some of the systems, and some of your companions. Plus, the first Pillars of Eternity is a great game in its own right!

Exceptionally well done game

This game is very well done. Story is incredibly written and voice really well. I really like how the narrator talks during certain scenesm as she does a really good job. Gameplay is really well done too. There are many choices of playstyles to use and the player can set AI to their characters to let them act upon their own rules. The game includes difficulty modes and has a good inventory screen to adjust your inventory. The sea battles are basic and the characters your get, (ship crew) can be used to help boost the stats on your ship. The characters and the culture of certain areas is well shown and the discourse between the cultures. Their are 2 romance options in this game as a male hero and I think their is at least 2 as a female hero. Their are other romance options but they are overtly written to stand out as gameplay feature. The characters have personality that provides interesting options to the games evnironment and player choices. Amazing game 5 out of 5.

OBSESSED

I can honestly say I don't understand why this game isn't more popular, at least since the release of Turn Based. I can say I'm not really a big fan of real time pause, but I love love love turn based and have over 250 hours in Divinity OS 2 and since learning that Turn Base was added to PoE2, it was an instant buy for me with all of the DLC. I. AM. NOT. DISAPPOINTED. I've only had the game a week and I'm already over 110 hours in - (I've had a lot of spare time this week) It has so many of the things I loved about Divinity OS2 - but with a fresh graphics that are completely stunning, amazing voice acting, a ton of class customization with regards to builds. I'm in love, I started the game, stopped after 50 hours, tried Trial of Iron - died stupidly after 20 hours and now I'm back playing Vet and still working though my first playthrough - my characters are only level 11. I have so much to explore still for this game, I would imagine the turn based mechanic makes the game in it's entirely take longer to complete but I find the tactics so satistfying! I will 100% try trial by iron on the hardest difficulty after I complete this play-through. What took we so long to buy this when it came out is that I'm not really entirely fond out "Pirate Ship", themed games. I was so very wrong about how that mechanic would take place, I love that when you're fighting against other ships it's a massive brawl (turn based of course) and you get to see some of your other companions show relavence even if you weren't expecting to ever use them again you have a reason to keep them geared. I'M IN LOVE. obviously I'm giving this game a 5/5 total fresh of breath air for me and I hope it gains in popularity as more people are introduced to Turn based. ----- I wish there was more character customization, armours, weapons, hair, beards... but it's in no way shape or form a deal breaker and I do love whats available, I just wish there was more ----

Well-balanced, playable with less stress

(I already spent much time playing PoE1, so my impression might be not reliable in some way as a generic one) Compared with the first one, the playability of the game is highly improved. Loading time is now even less stressful: Instead of full loading screen with 3-D still image in PoE1 all the time, more basic one, but with a loading indicator. I quite appreciate this, as now you can see if the game really froze at some point for some reasons. Interfaces and AIs are configurable. As the multi-class is allowed, you can try many combinations of conditions and actions for each character. Very enjoyable. The party is now limited to 5 people, but all members can join in the naval combat, so still it is worth recruiting many different characters. The story is not as strong as PoE1 (as already suggested in other reviews), but I do not think the replayability is sacrificed because of that: There still exist many choices that lead to different outcomes inside the game. "Blessing" (some perks you can buy at the beginning of the game once you get some achievements ) is another element which might help you experiment with different play-styles even after you finished the game.
