Favorite premium campaign, with a caveat

This campaign was actually pretty intense, and unlike Darkness over Daggerford the intensity was sustained for most of it. I liked the dark fantasy feel, I loved the creepy secondary villain, and I especially loved the zombie rogue Lyressa - she's one of my favorite companions in NWN, period, and her backstory's resolution had me all but standing up and applauding. Also liked how the second half can be an all women party, which... is appropriate for the campaign, but the reason for that is the caveat... Which is that like in Crimson Tides of Tethyr, Luke Scull doesn't pull punches about how sexist the world of Forgotten Realms is, with IMO mixed results. Sometimes it works great (the visceral serial-killer misogyny of the secondary villain). Sometimes it doesn't (the way that bit villains tend to spout sexism before being killed, sometimes not even by your party). And sometimes it works a little too well (the end boss's pelvic thrust casting animation, which made me almost give up the campaign the first time around). As far as gameplay, that's more of a mixed bag, leaning very strategic rather than tactical. Most fights are very easy if you have a good build, and very hard if you have a bad one. As in HotU, weapon enchantment is available, and you should use it - otherwise, barring a couple exceptional weapons, you won't be able to hit stuff towards the end. Roleplaywise, the campaign feels very geared towards good or neutral PCs, which I am fine with. No romance options AFAIK but plenty of shipteases. It's a good followup to Crimson Tides of Tethyr as well - that campaign had the feel of a superhuman hero stumbling into an epic tragedy, and in TotM said hero runs into their own brick wall of tragedy. In conclusion: slightly flaw, very fun, goes hard. I like it a lot.

Mod of invulnerable NPCs

A primitive mod in which the developers could not implement competent interaction with the player. Almost all NPCs are invulnerable. In this mod, everything is scripted and inaccessible. The player walks down a stupid corridor, without the possibility of any choice. Event scenes in fashion are stupid. An armored hero kills a dragon in one round, but some weakling knocks out the hero in the script with one punch through the armor.

Wants to be everything is nothing

Its old, its been around for some time but I just had to write something because its so atrocious. 1: The whole ordeal is railroaded from start to end to the point where deviating from the linear progression simply ends in bugs and wrong triggers. 2: Constant cutscenes are not just a bad habbit of denying player agenda but actually hurt on a technical level because they spawn a lot of problems with the engine like ending polymorph forcefully. Besides NWN just lacking the visuals in general and the story being so dull and shallow in particular that having another cutscene every five minutes is really just no appropriate presentation that would justify the impaired gameplay. 3: Rogues and faces are out. There are virtually no traps or locked doors. No alternative paths to combat. The only PC - NPC interactions are different faux response options (good/evil/neutral) which all continue the same monologue and Morrowindesque NPC wikis with the same three questions of what/who/where which are not even informative since literally all answers are just four liner derivates of "I dont know though" if its not a forced story expo. Choices dont matter at all. 4: The balance is all over the place and this module was obviously never playtested. Several possible soft locks can be enjoyed. The module expects ruthless magic and resting minmax with often almost comically forced difficulty resulting in binary fights of either instant loss or instant win and everyone downing dozens of healing potions. The overall combat is either linear FPS hallways or gigantic procederal generated maps without terrain or landmarks filled with enemies. Loot doesnt matter since merchants dont have enough gold to buy and nothing besides basics to sell with a few exceptions, All in all its even less of an actual rpg than the OC failing spectacularly at combat at the same time and offering a linear teenage fanfic tier story that would fit on a handwritten fridge note. Not even worth a sale.

Nice but maybe a bit boring

The game is nice but too long, and suffers what - I think - every high level DnD campaing does: it is poorly balanced. At high levels, no fight is a match for the PCs so it becomes boring. For now I've left it unfinished, maybe I will give it another chance in future. If you find it at a reasonable price (say, 5$) it's OK.

Tyrants of the moonsea

This is my favourite module for nwn. Even better than Darkness over daggerford. Great stuff!
