On par with Darkness over Daggerford

Review based on my playthrough of a Steam version. In short, it is just as good as Darkness over Daggerford (possibly better), for those of you who played it. This is a high-level (15+) module with horse support (for a small part only, though), DoD-like map system and sailing / sea encounters. The story is alright. Not a masterpiece, but good nonetheless. Visuals, for an NWN module, are definitely good. Ossian teamed up with some community members to make use of some of the best NWN tilesets available (which were also improved a little), as well as adding new ones. The elven city tileset expansion is very nice. There are also some new models, which are of great quality - the only thing one can complain about is that they stand out from the blocky models of vanilla NWN. Areas are large, sometimes only to give the player a feeling of vastness, because some parts are not accessible. Sound: There are a lot of new music tracks, majority of which I found fitting and of high quality. The new tavern and battle tracks are my favorites. There's also a LOT of voiceover for dialogues and I was pleasantly surprised to discover it's generally much better than in the OCs. As for the gameplay, it's also very good. There are a real lot of quests (I counted over 30 in my journal), most of which are more advanced than "go, kill, fetch". The game is unfortunately rather easy - my Dwarven Defender had little to no trouble on the hardcore difficulty except for two or three battles. There are also a few companions available, which are fleshed out more than the ones in DoD, to the point of playing semi-major roles in the storyline. Mechanically they're a bit weak, but they drop to the floor with 1HP instead of dying and get up after the battle is over, so you never have to resurrect them, which is nice. All in all, the game took me about 30 hours (despite not doing every side quest). For a Neverwinter Nights fun, this is definitely a must play, despite its few shortcomings.

An excellent NWN campaign

Bought it, played it, and was well impressed with it. I'd clock it around thirty hours of gameplay with a good balance between narrative, combat and a bit of exploration, all with a level of polish appropriate for a solid expansion. The campaign starts you off at level 15 and sets you loose in the Moonsea region more popular in older editions of AD&D, and the extent to which it draws on established fiction is probably its standout feature. You get a wide variety of places to visit and people to meet, though in practice progression is fairly linear, more akin to Icewind Dale than Baldur's Gate. The plot is on the simple side but does have the occasional twist and your companions, up to three at a time, are decently fleshed out and all present varying degrees of narrative involvement. The developers boasted that TotM is the best looking NWN campaign yet and I have to agree. It's not just NWN EE's new lighting model, but more the new tilesets, generous use of placeables and the visual scope of many areas that give a sense of space. You also have new audio tracks, just the right amount of voice acting to give characters colour but not to get in your way (whoever voiced Kornah the Crazy clearly had a good time of it), and even a choice of outro cinematics to go with your final decisions. As a negative, there's a relative lack of puzzles and thieving opportunities in dungeons. And if you're a veteran of the old NWN who remembers issues such as the myopic pathfinding and atrocious henchmen AI, you're still getting the classic experience - unfortunately there's been no news on getting party controls for a game that could really use them, though this is more to do with the EE rather than TotM in particular. Meant to say more but hit the character limit - very happy with the purchase and it's now one of my favourite "official" NWN campaigns, alongside Darkness over Daggerford and Shadows of Undrentide. Hoping for more content like this from Beamdog, Ossian and Luke Scull.

Best NWN module ever...

I was skeptical at first because at the moment I considered buying this I already owned several versions of Neverwinter Nights already and had to buy the Enhanced Edition just to get this module. I would not be disappointed. Extremely immersive atmosphere, great dialogue and very well-made storyline, probably the best ever on any NWN module. The new tilesets give you the feel of a completely new game, there is new music and the game actually never gets boring or static. As only drawbacks I would list a nasty savegame bug, which deletes the saved game the game hangs up on which means you have to revert to the peunultimate saved game. I would therefore recommend saving at least twice on any occasion. There is also a balance issue. After the item upgrade at the Temple of Tempus (Holy Avenger upgraded to +5 weapon with 1d8 additional damage) most encounters were way too easy afterwards. Also, this module could easily have been three or four times bigger. The Moonsea setting is a DM's dream and only having two small maps in every city just does not feel "enough". Also, some of the later encounters could have been more challenging, especially the siege at the end. All-in-all, a fantastic experience, which had me playing, laughing and enjoying myself from beginning to the end. We need more modules of this type, PLEASE !

Good, not as great as Daggerford.

This is a fantastic game and worth it's price. The story is well done, and the voice acting is great (though inconsistent--some characters you'd expect to have it don't). You get plenty of fun game play for the price you pay. A few things prevent it from being a five star game to me. The side quests were less compelling to me than Daggerford, but on par with or better than Alezander's other work (this is an enhanced and expanded version of his third module). Early game I noticed some players may not be ready for the fights with the gear made available to you. I had luckily gone through other modules and through some Infinite Dungeons to get from level 14 to 15 so I had some gear to prevent major damage and status effects. Mid to late game seems plenty fair though. I would not recommend going in expecting to role play a certain alignment and be able to keep it, especially anything involving neutral. This module is a bit heavy handed with alignment choices, not always giving clear Good/Bad or Lawful/Evil dialogue even though it treats them as such (though some are good). A few dialogues do not give enough dialogue choices to avoid lawful/evil points or good/bad points (neutrals will have a fit trying to stay neutral). I did manage to get around it, but it wasn't fun and it involved dumb work-arounds like walking away from NPCs to avoid dialogues. Regardless of the flaws and bugs still existent in Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition, your money will be well spent here. In my experience, Ossian Studio's work is going to be better than playing other modules including the official campaigns. Also, to Beamdog's work in publishing this, I give that specifically a 0/5. I had to buy NWN:EE all over again on GoG when I should've been able to buy it from them directly. On the bright side, at least I got the whole game DRM free now. Beamdog needs to learn to treat customers better and coordinate releases and patches instead of doing so haphazardly.

Very good setting, boring gameplay

The campaign has a good start, above average, but I wouldn't say anything special. But by the second half it gets really boring, with unnecessary plot twists to prolong the playtime, big, empty maps and mandatory fetchquests. With that being said, you do learn quite a bit about the Forgotten Realms setting, with lots of books, characters and cities set into the campaign, I just wish the campaign was better made to accomodate this huge lore.
