Get Diamond elsewhere

This overpriced "EE" does nothing for previous existing NWN:DE users, while also charging for the 'latest related content' and introducing paid mods. An aberration to say the least, as present in GOG while not a 'present' by any means for them NWN fans. Judging by the Beamdog blog, updates for this game are either on hold or dead, which doesn't really spell good news for owners of this edition, as they usually contain bugfixes. This really calls for a missed opportunity to bring a bit of pulse to the struggling cRPG genre, and an extremely weak attempt at putting a classic back in shape. CDs can be a beautiful thing.

Great Game

Purchasing this game provided me with countless hours (Well over 1000) of persistent world (PW) and campaign fun. I only bought it here, some years ago, because it was on sale and my original CDs were scratched to the 7th level of hell. The gamer developers over at Bioware that made this game deserve some credit. They made it accessible and fun to gamers and creators alike. Anyone that has a knack for D&D, video games, or imagination can get lost in Neverwinter Nights. Now that Neverwinter Nights Enhanced has been released this game deserves nothing less than 5 stars. It's legacy carries on.

I think it's great!

If you already own the original NWN Diamond addition and have no issues running the game then you probably won't need this one. However, what I like about this one is it works better, it has linux and mac versions, and I feel like it will stay working with future systems for quite some time. Running the original had some issues such as occasional crash that I haven't experienced in this version yet. Did the graphics improve? Meh, very minor. I was hoping that the barely visible white line down the middle of drow faces would have been removed, but they're still there otherwise you barely notice any graphic enhancement. You do have options to increase the interface, which is a good improvement on hires monitors. The only downside I see is the frame rate, if it's accurately being shown, shows a huge drop; however, the FPS shows it's very small I do not notice it playing the game.

Investment into the Future

It´s Neverwinter plain and simple. Still the only freely player created persistant world builder and client in the best version(IMHO) of the D&D Universe. Yes, Beamdog hardly improved the looks and quite frankly their politics of removing the old versions from the market is downright stupid, even from a marketing standpoint. It´s pretty much the major reason everybody has their panties in a bunch over their products. The future DOES look bright though and Beamdog ALWAYS delivered on their promise to keep improving and fixing their EE games, just like with NWN. As of this writing the incredibly usefull NWSync tool is in open beta testing and the MAJOR 64bit overhaul and Tablet launch are comming along nicely. Graphics overhaul and further UI improvements are to follow "soon". If you´re the type who likes to spend your monies on a myriad of nonplayable Kickstarter games, here´s your chance to support an actually available one.

It runs.

If you are like me and have been trying in futility to get Neverwinter Nights to run at anyhing approaching a playable performance, then this 'enhanced edition' is for you. Firstly, the game runs without issue on modern hardware and opperating systems. Secondly, there are some slight graphical enhancements and proper UI scaling this time. The game is still the old Neverwinter Nights that we all know. One might argue that Beamdog simply got it running for everyone. There is thankfully little which has been revised, of course this also means dealing with the old, somewhat clunky, interface. The game is not truly party based as we have seen with other Dungeons & Dragons games. Instead you control only one character and can issue remote or standing orders to your henchmen. This means that you are always first through a door, which is something to take note of if you are playing a squishy wizard. The adherence to the D&D rules is close butt never true, presumably because it would be difficult to emulate in this sort of real time game. Thanks to your computer doing all the calculations you can fight numbers of enemies which would take days to emulate in pen and paper. The graphics are obviously not trying to be a high fidelity affair. Characters are blocky and so is the environment, which is obviously designed around the way the game applies the rules. All rooms and outdoor areas are built in square blocks and elevation changes happen in sudden steps. This may seem odd initially but as you play it develops its own charm. Spell effects are wonderful and impactful. The game also has a violence option above 'full' called 'special' which causes enemies to disappear into a mist of blood and bone fragments provided you hit them hard enough, which is an especially satisfying feedback when you have reached demigod-slaying level 40.
