The old game has aged terribly
but this one is even worse. My guess is the "enhanced edition" was added ironically by the developers

One of my all-time top ten games
Bought my first copy in 2002, within days of launch. I have the game already modded and up and running on windows 10. I wasn't going to buy this again until I saw more improvements, but then I saw the PRC, Ossarion and other modders are back, encouraged by Beamdog's revival. That in itself is enough for me to support what is happening. 9.99 sale price on GOG is great because I have a garanteed digital copy forever now of a game I want to play forever. If everyone was me I would say 3 stars right now, take it or leave it as it is currently, but for those new to the game who love 3E D&D get it. Original Campaign is not for all (I love it) but the other two (SoU and HotU) make a full classic game for all levels and with all the free mods coming out even now, and the PRC about to unleash more extra classes than you can play in one lifetime, how can you not give it 5*? I cannot understand why it is a scam when everything is transparent and nobody forces us to buy the game again? I have seen what is planned by Beamdog, listened to Trent and I am more than happy.

Decent
Note - this review is of the diamond edition, not of the enhanced edition. I found the game to be a chore. Had to force myself to play and complete the quests, found the quests very boring to complete, they generally only revolve around 3 steps - mainly finding a quest, killing the enemies, and then earning rewards. The quests themselves are not that creative and memorable. The culture in the game is very contemporary with a little bit of medieval hint (similar to other D & D games I guess) and by now I have gotten too used to it. As a plus the game runs magnificiently on linux using wine. I found myself falling asleep multiple times while playing this....

Undeserved review bombing
This game is fantastic and is still an unique game after all these years. The review bombing is shameful and is just developer/publisher hate rather than judging the product. The enhanced edition has brought some amazing things to NWN, such as restoring the multiplayer server list, creating a simple way to download the required files when joining custom content servers, fixed bugs and increased the opportunities for creating new content for the game by improving the modding tools.
