Not a good game

Interesting idea, controlling every unit in over the shoulder camera mode (just like a TPS), while being turn based. And they tried to give lots of options to customize each character in your warband. But the gameplay is just bad: For a start it is difficult to oversee characters in the battlefield, because you only see one of your character at a time, so if you don't know the map, you don't know where others might be, and where should you go. There are "ambush stances" in the middle of nothing, so when you approach an enemy in plain sight, you might be "ambushed" by that enemy. The actions are clumsy and slow. The enemy actions are also slow, you have to sit and wait for long times. The GUI is a mess, more confusing than helpful. It looked interesting, the presentation of the game is good, but the gameplay itself made me uninstall fairly quickly. Luckily I had this one for free, because for me it wouldn't even worth the 2 euro at 90% discount price, and I regret even that little time that I spent on it to try out.

Be Patient and Cautious or be Humbled!

Between GOG and Steam I have a pretty hefty collection of Warhammer games, both Old World and 40K, and this title yearns still for challengers to depose it's firm grip in my personal Top 5. Sitting amongst more commonly loved giants like Dawn of War and Battlefleet Gothic, Mordheim is a game that will either send you screaming and tearing out your own hair or it will sink it's Skaven like claws into your grey matter like a crossbow bolt. This gem of a title will force you to learn patience, discipline, and an instictive tactical acumen which is hard won and painful but also transferrable to strategy and tactics games of all sorts. Your first steps into the ruins of the City of the Damned will likely see you snatched by an unseen foe, dragged behind the woodshed, and left facedown in the mud with more bruises and wounds than intact flesh. Resist that first anvil of despair dropped upon your head by the Ruthless Number Gods and soldier on if you wish to unearth the wonders and wealth concealed beneath the tormented ruins of the once great metropolis. It's a game that makes you earn any semblance of victory, a toll extracted in blood, lives, souls, and no small number of faceplants onto your own keyboard as you discover for the umpteenth time that hubris is a trait not tolerated in Mordheim. A few simple tips will help you build a warband worthy of songs sung over stiens held aloft as foaming mead and ale spill upon the revelers inspired by your deeds. -No man, woman, rat, flea or shadow ought proceed alone, even if it is just to retrieve a single fragment of precious Wyrdstone in a seemingly safe locale. -Projectiles provide the security of range, but a 25lbs hammer removes threats faster. The fallen harm none. -The clever outlive the brave. When in doubt - rout. -Casualties are unavoidable, always bring disposable assets. -Get the DLC, the best units are extra...Warhammer, right? It's survival of the most unscrupulous, can you sink to the challenge?

fun, but....boring

at 17hrs in....its fun but the controls feel there mint for controller not k&m. which makes it frustrating to search levels and brutally unfair to play at times for the most part besides heroes all henchmen look the same not enough character creation 17hrs in and im just now get decent weapons that do 45+ damage while enemies been doing this since the start of the game characters always under level and you level to slowly after winning a hard battle there is no gratifying rewards just 1/2 skill points there really skimpy the upgrades to drag out the length of the game. if your not a lover of rts games like i am then wait for a sale bc. you may not like this one 4/10

Too convoluted, too much waiting

The on-boarding experience for this game is horrible. I think the devs got lost in the sauce of recreating a tabletop experience in a turn-based video game format. You have to sit and wait for enemy AI to take their turns, even when you can't see them. This can take up to a couple minutes during the first turns, where nothing is going on and you can't see anything or do anything. I went into my first battle and lost my leader because I could not get my archer to fire back at an enemy archer for 2 turns, no matter what I tried. Nothing in the tutorials or the game UI was explaining to me why I could not shoot back. I tried to find & pick up a warpstone that I could not mark on the map, I could not see physically no matter where I put the camera, and I tried scaling floors of a building to see if it was located higher out of sight but it was taking multiple turns just to cross 1 floor because it involved a jump roll that I kept failing. I couldn't find it. There's way too many numbers and modifiers flying around, characters can barely take more than 3 hits, and - in contrast with all the numbers/variables flying around - there's little reason to do much else than bunch up and focus-fire attacks on enemies. I'm a big fan of turn-based games, I still play Master of Orion 2, I've played most Fire Emblems, I greatly enjoy Larian Studios' games, I can't recommend this experience.

Find a different GW inspired game

All GW-derived games live and die by silly RNG. However, games like Blood Bowl are goofy and fun. I can forgive losing an orc to big, dumb football ogre while I sprint down the field. Mordheim is something else. There's no upside to missing 6 consecutive attacks where you have a 70%+ chance to hit and watching your squad die in the bleak, ugly pit that is Mordheim. If you love grinding out high risk missions to slowly improve your crew, you may enjoy this game. I think it embodies GW's worst tendencies without any of the flamboyant fun.
