Amazing game, but...
As a child I loved this game, it still is a amazing game, but I cannot play Breakthrough or Spearhead.

Just Another Shooter
This is a textbook example of why EA games don't age well. Back in the day when the graphics were cutting-edge I could see this being an exiting experience, but now? Meh. This is a garden variety FPS, and not a very interesting one. The level design is simplistic, almost oafish. There are several levels that can only be beaten by trial and error which means tediously dying by sending yourself into ambush in order to locate the enemy positions. If you like this kind of thing, good on you. I have better things to do with my time than save/load the same level a half dozen times. I completely lost interest in less than a week. It wasn't even an old-school rage-quit. I just abandoned it out of sheer boredom.

I expected WW2. I got Vietnam.
This game starts out pretty promising if somewhat dated but it devolves pretty fast to enemies spawning in ridiculous locations and popping you in the back of the head as fast as they can cycle their bolts on their K98k. Of course you can't see through bushes, but they can! Proceeding cautiously does not help either because they don't spawn in until you step in just the right place. Honestly if this were released today people would call it a rage game. It trolls you THAT hard. Metacritic of 91 btw. I would say it's enjoyable up before Sniper Town. That level though... no. It is literally playing Where's Waldo, except with bushes blocking the pages.

Classic Gem !
The WWII FPS genre basically blossomed from this game. Admittedly, the graphics have not aged well and doesn't support widescreen natively but the game mechanics are as tight as ever. The missions are varied enough that the entire game doesn't feel like you are just checking objective one by one. Good Buy !
