NOT as good as 95% of these reviews say!

As for most of these "fanboy" written 5 star OMG OMG OMG this game is just sex. Gives me cheepies in my panties. Just Ignore them. And that's at least 95% of all the reviews written here. This game just IS NOT THAT GOOD!!!!! Overall is it only a "fair to middling" game. Far short of what I expected from the progenitor of such a long and successful series of later releases!!!!! I'll just give the pros and cons:- Pros - Storyline and other game texts are very well written - Mission design is mostly well done - The program is stable, not had a crash to desktop once on my PC..... yet...... - This edition seems the definitive version with all the official addons bundled in Cons - 3D GFX engine is below par, even for 2002..... I mean, in that year Half Life 2 was well on it's way - and it had 20x better 3D on it! MOH:AA is more comparable to the like of late 90's games such as Half Life 1, Unreal, Quake 2 etc - Also a LOT of glitches in those GFX too - possibly due to issues with such an old engine running on such a modern PC, maybe not something found back when the game was new - The SFX engine is flawed, distant enemies sometimes sound as if they're right on top you! - exceptions to the well designed missions exist..... such as the D-Day Beach Landing and mission set near Brest (Mission 5) with all the totally invisible snipers. You WILL need to cheat on those - even on Easy - which normally is WAY too easy!!!!! - others missions go for the utterly lame and infuriating trick of spawning enemies from thin air, behind you and at close range..... I HATE THAT!!!!! - you can't reach many seemingly open areas, seemingly gentle slopes are impassible, open roads and doorways have invisible forcefields - your squad mates AI is AWFUL - there AI is really just "if enemy seen then run right at them with willies in hand and shout shoot my dong please", which is problem when mission criteria mandates they don't get their dongs shot off..... Get the cheats, You WILL need them!

Call of Duty was better.

I recently revisited this and the original Call of Duty (2003) on a nostalgic whim. I have to say that Call of Duty is basically MOHAA, but better in every single way. Infinity Ward clearly learned from MOHAA's mistakes. The single player campaign for MOHAA is ruined by it's unfair difficulty. The AI has near-pinpoint accuracy and bullet-sponge levels of health. You'll shoot a German soldier multiple times with an M1 Garand, and somehow he'll only be "stumbled". Apparently Germans have skin made of kevlar - it's a miracle the allies won the war. The levels are poorly designed to the point where you have to rely on abusing quicksave to win. It doesn't help that you're doing most levels solo too, meaning all the enemy fire is directed straight at you. At least in CoD you had AI teammates who could actually soak up enemy fire and allow you to flank etc. In MOHAA it's just you versus the entire German army pretty much every level. I'm only rating this two stars for the soundtrack and the multiplayer. The multiplayer isn't as active as it used to be, but there's still some fun to be had if you can organize a big enough group of players. But even then, CoD still did it better.

Tough, Fair, Fully Open

The graphics are a little dated (but still do the job of atmosphere well), enemy and ally A.I can be wonky sometimes, and there's no iron sights. That's the only problems I had with this game. Otherwise this is the kind of game I've been looking for for awhile: a completely gameplay focused FPS with missions and variety. Medal of Honor is like a hybrid of Call of Duty and Doom. You have an entire level to explore, enemies to fight on your terms, a few vehicle on-rails sections between times to enjoy the tension and power of an unlimited ammo machine gun but no real cover, objectives to complete that vary by each section of a level, medals of unlock by accomplishing things not necessary to complete the level but still very satisfying (in one level you CAN finish a level after a POW gets killed...but if you save him you get a medal for your trouble!) A.I is not as advanced as other games but enemies do duck behind things, run away when under fire, throw grenades, find sniper vantages, and even go prone if you start to snipe them from far away. There's four missions in the main campaign but each of these is a bunch of story-based sequences involving sabotage, rescues, collecting intel...things like that. Great music, earnest voice acting (I think the guy giving you your orders is the same actor from Civilization V) and it's not afraid to let you play the darn game. Mission briefings can be skipped and in-game cutscenes are just a few minutes of interaction or dialogue, then back to the action! Great fun. I don't mind a little age on my game if it's fun and clearly made with passion.
