My favorite in the series

First things first, be sure to install Peixoto's and the Widescreen patches and you'll be fine. Also, there is a troubleshooting guide over at PC Gaming Wiki if you still have some issues. That being said, Soul Reaver 2 is probably my favorite in the Legacy of Kain series. The story and the plot twists and the revelations... my God this is the pinnacle of storytelling! And the way that they incorporated plot points from Blood Omen is phenomenal! The game is linear, however, the story is densely packed in the game. Unlike the first Soul Reaver, every 10 minutes or so, you'll get to a story point and something new happens as the mystery unravels. This is probably the reason why I love it so much. The gameplay and the combat are a bit dated, but remember, this game came out 22 years ago. Even still playing it doesn't feel like a chore. The graphics are excellent for a game this old and the music and the atmosphere are well done, though nothing beats Ozar Midrashim. If anything, this game deserves to be played for the story alone! Well, off to continue my journey through Nosgoth in Blood Omen 2. Cheers!

Recalls good and bad memories of '01

+ interesting story (I'd definitely buy a book rather than this) + somehow catchy game (you want to play more despite its flaws) + graphics of that time and realm-changing + well-crafted locations - unskippable LONG FMVs - SERIOUSLY imbecile save system (distant save points etc.) - idiotic combat - not too many locations, you keep going back and forth - controls not really prepared for keyb+mouse - bland synth music (Soul Reaver 1 was better at this) - level design not well tested: dark places (needs gamma tweaks), puzzles dependent on badly visible low-def texture etc. (sometimes you wander around just because you don't notice that a texture of a stone in the dark is slightly different from others etc.) Conclusion: I really looked forward to playing this game. In the end, it reminded me how catchy old games were with their simple, original mechanics, engaging story and, in this case, sympathetic antiheroes. However, it possesses a high risk of throwing your time away, as you may spend hour or more between chances to save with enraging combats, degraded by horrible controls and tacky camera.

Fantastic world building

The voice acting, script and art direction for this game are phenomanal, thjey really draw you into the world. The world that the writers have created here is something really different in the vampire genre. The gameplay has not aged that well though. it's okay but nothing special, so I have to knock of a star for that. I remember loving the gameplay when it first came out but yeah, the combat is a little bland by today's standards.

Best saga that I never played IN SPANISH

I love these games! I'd started with the Soul Reaver 1 in my PlayStation and continue the saga with Blood Omen 2, Soul Reaver 2, Defiance and finally, I played to the Blood Omen 1. I bought a lot of physical copies because I lost when I led my games, accidentally, they had broken, etc., and I would like to take them in GoG to have all localizated in the Net, but that's a pity, because all the games (except Blood Omen 1) are in spanish with good voice actors, and I cannot take my favourite saga in my own language :(. The first Soul Reaver, was a revolutionary game because eliminate the loading pages and you can play without interruptions. The saga have a very good story full of surprises. If you are a vampire, platform, or good stories lover, take it... ... ... WTF? Take it if you like the good games! But, of course, play or see before the cinematics of the first Soul Reaver to understand the story correctly, because in Soul Reaver you take the control of Raziel, in Blood Omen you are Kain, the Raziel's vampire father, and in Defiance, you take the control of both (I advise you that Defiance is a bit bored because you walk in the same scenaries with Raziel and Kain with some centuries of difference, and you duplicate your "job"). Like I'd said, that's a pity: all the games (except Blood Omen 1), at 4.76€, but not in the language that I played before. I must to continue with my physical copies :(.
