The truth

While thirsty fanboys and shills are praising this game the truth of the matter is that it has a number of problems as a few others have already pointed out. Inventory management is very basic, crafting loot, no proper buying ammo., economy and days are very poor and streamlined. Mechanics are hit and miss. Characters are ok...some odd choices on who they kept at aim but altogether not many new faces or originality and creativity. The humor is either laugh or cringe. You can't buy top tier mercs at the start limiting you strategy of few elite fighters from the beginning. U.I. is terrible. I'd say it's a 3/5 not great and far from it but it isn't as slop as some other games, other then that the game has a high price tag, I wouldn't recommend it at it's full price and I'd recommend watching some gameplay to see if it is for you. The whole thing feels very mobile lite game with paper thin writing. There's something for fans here but only the big ones and only on sale.

Fantastic 2023 re-interpretation

JA2 is my favorite game of all times. JA3 fabulously updated the gameplay and graphics to what current gamers expect. It's not JA2 with better graphics. It's a new game inspired by JA2. 1. Biggest pro: Grand Chien world building and writing 2. Biggest con: recruitable AIM merc diversity, writing and voice acting 3. Neither pro or con: streamlining of game and combat systems 1. The world atmosphere and building are PHENOMENAL. Grand Chien feels so alive, authentic and full of hilarious comments. The dialogue about the lack of accent on Légion right before I'm about to sneak attack is such a great moment. The communist militia unwitting comments about the tactical greatness of MERC delivered with deadpan earnest voice acting are superb. 2. The one thing I felt was inferior was the recruitable AIM mercs. Not well balanced and there's too few of them. Very sad some of my favorites didn't make it, such as Buzz, La Malice or Trevor. JA2 better nailed the voice acting, personality and humor. Steroid is surprisingly bland and not over the top enough (never thought I'd say that). Fox is too unidimensional. In JA2 it felt like she was more self-aware and making fun of her own superficial looks-first persona. Igor has become an exaggerated alcoholic clown caricature whereas JA2 walked the perfect line of good-natured funny but serious/ambitious with so much to prove. 3. This game is full of tradeoffs compared with JA2: gun & ammo diversity, inventory, supply chain and squad management are less tedious but also less detailed. That's both a pro or a con depending on your tastes, age and patience. I miss the old interrupt system, but that's just personal preference. Overall: MUST BUY. Mod support tools bode extremely for the future. A Fallout campaign that would give us a taste of the isometric turn-based Fallout 3 we hoped for would be amazing. The existing desert and urban map assets lend themselves perfectly for this.

Perfect JA experience after 20 years

If you are not fond of or can't understand the type of "outdated", "offensive", "non-PC" humor of games like this, you should autoskip it. But if you are looking for a great game with much fun, toleratable amount of bugs, perfect resemblance and nostagic feeling for the previous games, look no further. If you loved JA2, it's a must. Good graphics, nice ideas, easter eggs, fun enough story, great side missions. I can just recommend it.

Wonderful job by Haemimont!

It's clear that a lot of effort went into the game with a lot of love for the series, too. If you're a JA veteran I'm pretty sure you'll have a great time; the gameplay is good and all the personality is there.

still got the JA magic

It's fantastic. Has all the hallmarks of the original games. Even a lot of the same weapons which makes it feel very familiar. The cultural references are hilarious. Gameplay is perfect. I noticed some subtle changes to the interface that make the game more fun to play in a lot of ways than the originals. For instance ammo/inventory management is streamlined, and movement during combat doesn't require you to stand up, then run, then go back to prone. It just automatically does what will cost the fewest APs. Really great game, hope we see a lot of DLCs.
