For 25 years, anyone who plays MOOII thinks how isn't this an amazing game, but eventually you wish there was an update, a sequel, because at its core its a great game, but it still needs something.
There have been so many attempts in this genre that failed miserable (Galactic Civilizations, MoOIII, Endless Space 2)

This is a great 4X space game, even for those with no MOO experience. I know because I'm one of them. Very easy to get into and difficult to stop playing. Knowing now how good it is, I'd pay full price for it, but at its current 50% price, it's a steal.
...Ok. I tried. I really did. But I just couldn't go away without mentioning the phrasing employed by the female voice actor who recites the tutorial text. It's so odd--kind of a William-Shatner-meets-a-half-sedated-Cate-Archer effect--that its annoyance factor gets overridden by its curiosity factor. Almost worth the price of admission by itself, in my book :)
This game is a solid "upgrade" to the old MoO2 with a lot of new stuff added.
If you like(d) MoO2 you will like this one as well.
what can i say, plays like MoO2 but better, on steroids*

-neat new ideas and mechanics (comparing to MoO2)

-a bit convoluted in lategame

why reinvent the wheel if you can just improve it? This game is a true successor to MoO2, unlike other recent games from that francise....
ALSO it is cheap. I l ike good stuff that is not expensive.
I have ~12 Hours of playtime in this game and about 5 of the MoO of recent. i MIGHT be slightly biased.

The true successor to Master of Orion 2. Just brilliant so far. The pdf manual is clear and concise in describing the basics, the ingame tutorial does an adequate job of guiding the player in the basics of everything.
I have yet to even finish my first game, so take my recommendation with a grain of salt, but I am extremely impressed with the whole package right now. Timeless.
I started playing this after burning out on 1772 hours of Civ 5 (I hate Civ 6 but completed all the civ titles between Civ 1 and 5)
This game is kinda simplistic so lacks the intensity you find from Civilization games.
