Ruined by terrible combat
Pros: + lots of fighting + nicely drawn environments + create a party of 6 (no NPCs) Cons: --- terrible Command & Conquer style passive combat (real time with pause) -- very little voice acting (prepare to read A LOT) - braindead AI - starts at level 1 with mages being near useless (1 spell per rest, 4 hit points) - pathfinding is horrible - Infinity engine's capabilities are very limited (fighting, reading dialogues) Bottom line: The first two BALDUR'S GATE games have to be the most overrated cRPGs of all time. Not only did they introduce a very crappy combat system where combat is mostly automatic and you just interfere by pressing space bar to pause and issue commands which the characters briefly follow before returning to their suicidal behavior (mages with 4 hps will rush into melee combat). Tactical turn-based combat is the only way to go in this type of game (unless it's a solo character game which can get away with DIABLO-style click-to-hit). The pathfinding is atrocious - you need to bring your party to a point at the end of the map, you'd better "lead" them in baby steps to that point or they'll just get lost (or stuck). Wanna leave the area? Prepare to hear "you must gather your party before venturing forth!" - yes, pixel exact placement of all six characters at the exit, one pixel off is a no-go. Due to the game engine's (Infinity, what a joke!) limitations you'll be doing two things is abundance: fighting and talking to NPCs (reading, lots and lots of reading, because only every other sentence is actually dubbed with mediocre voice acting). Enhanced Edition? Well, Beamdog did add higher resolutions, but using them makes everything look washed out and blurred, so don't expect any miracles here. If you intend to get ICEWIND DALE 2 note that that has NOT been "enhanced" and it recycles a lot of areas of ICEWIND 1.

luck determens your fate...and its bad
i dont like wrpg's but im determend to finish this sence i never did as a kid...why cus battles are decided randomly, i cant say how many times i did everything i could to only to have my party die over and over and over cus of not of lack of gear lvl or strad but becuse of a die rol....this is why pc rpgs were never good back in the day...and still arnt. but im kinda a masocist so im keep on strugleing till i rage flip the talbe ( only buy if your determend to have luck decide every battle)

In typical Obsidian fashion, where almost every single one of their products follows the pattern "identical to game X except Y", Icewind Dale is simply Baldur's Gate except more focused on combat. You'd think that's a good thing... well it isn't, because if you're a fan of BG, you liked it for the (stupid) story, (generic) setting and (retarded) characters, as well as (idiotic) humor, not the (braindead) combat. And if you aren't, well, there isn't anything for you here either, except watching ugly sprites trying (and failing) to hit each other.

Golden Age Garbage
I don’t even know where to start. The UI/UX is mediocre and the overall menu design is mediocre at best. There is no explanation or guide how to play this game. What is AC? THAC0 what is this, trolls that only die with fire or acid? where was this explained??? Nothing is explained, you must figure it out as you play. The fights are a bit hard and i think that a good thing but do i need to plan every single fight? Yes, i do; initially is good but after a while it gets exhausting. Its exhausting having to run around in every single fight, its exhausting that the enemies AI keeps targeting the most weak character every single time and you have to keep running around and manage other 5 party members. The party AI is low-average and keeps doing ridiculous mistakes, but if you turn it off they don’t do anything even if you tell the party to attack! You have to input the commands several times in order to work. The walking algorithm is dumb, keeps sending people through the longest routes, lots of time the party member can’t even walk they just bump into each other, it’s so good when it happens in the middle of boss fights and you die as result... The difficulty is not balanced, the Yxonumei boss is MUCH harder to fight against than any other enemy. Its almost impossible to beat without massive grinding and the room where this enemy is has traps to raise the stakes even higher! This is just a 3gb bug festival that relies on luck in order to be playable.
