Some games are better left to memory

Within the context of its contemporaries and age, it holds up relatively well, but if you hold no memories of this title - not so much. I got too frustrated to continue after the first handful of levels due to instant death mechanics just outside the camera's range and questionable hit boxes for the combat. I just can't afford the time to memorize sections of levels; and even if I did I'm not sure if my modern sensibilities would allow such a thing anymore. A lot of the difficulty comes from purposefully annoyingly designed sections of gameplay. Games like Super Meat Boy have truly surpassed and rendered Gex obsolete, so unless you are curious about the history or haved played it as a child there is little reason to return here.

Not that good

I used to play this game on 3DO when I was a kid and I really enjoyed back then. However, I never got to finish it, at least until now. I decided to buy the game on GOG to see if it was still as I remember, and yes, it is, but after managing to beat the game I realized that it's not good, even for 90s standards. The camera is messy; the controls feels sloppy; Gex looks like he's walking on soap almost all the time, which makes the gameplay a pain; most levels are just too long and tiresome; useless password system as it doesn't save your score and lives. However, the graphics were pretty good for that time. Unfortunately the visuals didn't age well. The best things, by far, is Gex himself and the soundtrack.

Nostalgic

You know that game that makes you want to pick it up every year to finish it again, so this the game that makes me do that , very nostalgic for me , it was the first game I got with my panasonic 3DO console, and the first one I finished, plataform 2D, nice gameplay, and easy to learn, fun stages and charismatic bosses , GEX character is my favorite , I highly recommend it!

Not compatible with Windows 11

This review isn't for the game itself, since I haven't played the OG, but for the fact that it's not compatible with Windows 11. When starting up the game, I'm met with the error: 'Video not available, cannot find 'vids.IV32' decompressor, and haven't been able to get/skip past it, so I'm literally unable to play the game. I'm really appreciative for GOG for preserving these old games, but since a lot of people are on windows 10 or 11 these days, it's really important to make sure these games are compatible with modern hardware. If/once this is patched/fixed, then I'll update my review. Unless I find a workaround, to which I'll update this with instructions on how to fix this issue.
