If zou like lovecraft and new-school "oldschool"-shooters, this is for you. I had a blast.

Gameplay lives up to the artstyle
This isn't just some game being carried by what a skeptic would call "gimmicky comic-book graphics in a lovecraft setting." The gunplay is satisfying as hell and headshots matter, but good movement is even more crucial unless you will be cornered by zombies or weird cthulu soldier dudes and be dead in seconds. Reading the steams reviews, it seems people want the devs to remove monster clipping so you can be bad and just hop around like an idiot, but please don't listen to them.

Don't bother
Nothing much to add to the other negative reviews, the game gets progressively worse as you play. People say it's "stylish", and sometimes it really looks like a 3D Darkest Dungeon, but those levels are rare. Most of the time it's a high contrast, high saturation mess with no art direction that's hard to read, with enemies blending with the textures and pitch black rooms and corridors. It's visually and mentally draining to play this game. Also if you hated the flashlight mechanic of the original Doom 3... well, these guys thought it was a good idea... so you can't shoot and see at the same time. It's also way too long and overstays its welcome to the point that you get new skill points with no skills left to unlock. The length could be cut in half and nothing would be lost. The voice acting for the girl is super cringe and out of place, not sure if it's better with the priest. At least the metal music during the fights is cool.

Best FPS released this year
A shining example of what a small studio can accomplish when given room to breath, and realize their vision. A perfect game, where every gameplay element resonates together to create an extremely interesting whole. > This game plays like a little bit oversimplified Doom or Blood on their maze levels with tons of monsters, but unique art style makes everything right. (From another review) I have no idea what game this guy was playing. I only was exposed to "Doom" and "Blood", and "Forgive Me Father" has *way* more complex and varied gameplay than either.

Exciting and fun despite minor flaws
With a strong comic style and elements from the Lovecraft mythos, this old-school FPS has a strong (yet also campy) first impression. And it doesn't end there. Killing enemies reward XP, which in turn grants Level Ups. These can be invested in upgrades of your weapons as well as skill abilities - cigarettes to slow time, voodoo dolls to hurt enemies, etc - which differ between the two playable characters. So there is a lot of variety in gameplay and the guns feel satisfying and paired with nicely laid out enemy encounters, the game is very solid. The game spans 5 episodes, each with about 5-6 levels (I didn't count to be honest) and all areas are nicely varied. From old towns to industrial areas, sewers (of course), an old ship, a very atmospheric farm and much more. Near the end, things get very surreal as well, but I don't wanna spoil it. But it has its drawbacks, too. The difficulty isn't consistent. The game spans 5 episodes, each with a boss at the end. Maybe it's just me, but I found the bosses of episode 2 and 3 MUCH harder than all those which came after. And even outside bosses: Near the end of episode 4 I found myself constantly low on ammo and health while previously breezing through the game. Aside of that there were some performance issues in the larger levels presumably caused by the massive amount of gibs which never despawned. More or less a first world problem I only noticed due to high refresh displays. So if your target is 60 FPS, you're probably fine. So take this with a grain of salt.
