Solid Gameplay, mediocre story.
TLDR: My experience was that game play and atmosphere for the most part is very solid and worth a run through. However, the story line is pretty hacked. I recommend this game if you enjoy good First Person Shooting game play. Not recommended if you're looking for mind blowingly amazing story and don't much care for the game play of a solid FPS. Now for the verbose bit: For the most part I agree with amrit9037. If you played the first game (and I definitely recommend that you do if you haven't, and are a bit older. The themes in these games are really warped and not for the soft and squishy hearts among you.) you'll very much feel that this game is a step down as far as story goes. I suspect that the writers had some fun ideas with the original silent protagonist but because of licensing junk couldn't get their hands on him (R.I.P. Monolith). So it feels like they tried to crowbar some story elements into this game around the story line of the first game. I did actually appreciate some of the "What the .... O_o " ending of the story though. Ending is very memorable. But then I'm weird. I think most people would not appreciate it after the mind altering insanity of the first game, that was amazing. On the other hand the gun play and game play mechanics are very solid. I really like the sniper rifle, and it's probably a good thing that ammo is fairly scarce for it. The school section is quite memorable and enjoyable. There's a boss battle that's rather rewarding to win part way through the school levels. It's something of a bugger, but you feel like you earned the win and you can pat yourself on the back once you get past it. I pick it up every once in a while purely for these things. Small bit of back story on me: I loved the first game and was super jazzed to get this game when it was announced. Purchased it fairly soon after release.

A decent game but not a worthy sequel
It's a farily decent game I'd say. Heck it even has some rather enjoyable moments and the campaign has a good lenght without feeling it is dragging its feet. But in general it plays like a design-by-the-numbers FPS and throughout you can't help but feel like it was developped with consoles in mind first and PC second. Just like in the original the "horror-parts" fall flat as ALMA never really poses a treath. That's a real shame because with the shooting feeling somewhat lackluster it is the one thing that could've elevated the franchise above mediocracy. But that sadly doesn't happen. There's 2 things better than in the original: graphically the game looks very nice even today and environments are far more varied. And secondly the story is stronger in this sequel. But beyond that it fails to build upon the foundation F.E.A.R. established. The GOG-version comes with the "reborn" DLC bundled in. Don't expect too much out of that though. It is only 1 or 2 hours long but it does have an intresting take on the story. Buy it in a sale if you're intrested but you're not missing much if you give this game a miss.

F.E.A.R. was a little bit better...
...and the first game was not very good either. This game had less jump scares and was approximately as scary as the first game. In other words: Not particularly scary. Doom 3, the two first Dead Space games, and even the two first Bioshock games were (much) more scary than this. This game just took me about one third of the time to complete compared to the first F.E.A.R. game including Extraction Point and Perseus Mandate! This game had much of the same graphics as the first game(s), but with some improvements, among other things, it natively supported at least up to 4k resolution (the first game(s) could be made to handle 4k with some editing). The first part was mostly too easy on the middle difficulty (Normal), and the second part was a bit unbalanced: OK for the most of the time, and then suddenly unreasonably hard with too many enemies at one time/or a collapsed building where you die if you make one wrong turn/armored enemies that suddenly pops out and so on. Everything is made worse by the inability to save when you want and/or need to save: The game is only saved at set save points! Because of the inability to save, and the lack of horror in this "horror" game, it is tempting to give this game 2/5, but it is not THAT bad, and if you get the game on offer, you at least get a OK/good bang for your bucks in the form of at least an OK FPS with some slight horror elements... I guess that if you liked the first game(s), you will like this game if you accept that it is (much) shorter. But if you did not like the first (game(s), then you might want to skip this game. At least if you do not get it for a low price.
