Le marin indépendant Jack Carver maudit le jour où il a posé le pied sur cette île. Une semaine auparavant, une arrogante reporter nommée Valerie lui avait proposé une somme d’argent pour la conduire jusqu’à ce paradis immaculé. Peu après avoir accosté, le bateau de Jack fut toutefois accueilli par des tirs d’artillerie en provenance d’un mystérieux groupe armé grouillant sur l’île.
Son bateau détruit, son argent évaporé et la séduisante Valerie brusquement portée disparue, Jack se trouve maintenant confronté à une armée de mercenaires dans la nature de l’île, avec pour seules ressources son pistolet et ses méninges pour survivre. Mais plus il s’enfonce dans la luxuriante canopée de la jungle, plus les choses deviennent étranges.
Jack fait la rencontre d’un membre du groupe armé qui lui révèle de terrifiants détails sur les véritables intentions des mercenaires. Il soumet à Jack un choix déconcertant : se battre contre les féroces mercenaires ou condamner la race humaine au bon vouloir d’un maniaque.

As for the single player, I only played a few levels. My friends and I really just played the game's multiplayer, and I liked it well enough. My biggest draw to Far Cry has always been the tropical island setting and its great graphics. (See below.)
I know some people were complaining on here about the insane AI that can see and shoot through walls like nothing. This is actually a bug that was introduced in the final official patch (1.4).
However, if you want to fix that and other bugs, to add some nice features to the game and improve the graphics even beyond the highest settings, then you simply must try the FCAM mod by Garcry. (Just do a google search for it.) It adds widescreen support, the 64-bit graphics content, and the AGM mod for improved graphics. It is a must-have for Far Cry. You won't regret it.
The first half of this game is amazing. The amount of freedom which you can pursue your goal is great. the control is tight, the guns have a nice punch to it, and challenge that encourages clever, 1-against-100 tactics.
The second half is not as great, newer enemies make the game more frustrating. But overall this game comes highly recommended.
wow....2018 and i am finally playing FARCRY!!!
first-off i must say cryteam did an amazing job
with the visuals, i mean the game world is beautiful
and you can see pretty far-off into the distance, it
almost tricks me into thinking that my crappy single-core
processor running @ 1.60ghz 2gbRAM and a integrated ATI
3200 video card is better than it actually is, the game
looks really good and runs very smooth on my low-spec system.
a very good FPS-game with lottsa action and gunplay!!!
includes a level-editor so you can make your own levels.
now for the bad or should i say the disapointing?
this game is WAY TOO HARD on the easy difficulty setting,
easy should be just-that EASY!!!! but the NPC's in this game
will take you down real fast...on easy difficulty they are TOO
accurate with their weapons, inflict TOO-MUCH damage and it can
take a few shots to put them down, i mean COME-ON cryteam..would
it have been so hard to give us a ONE-SHOT kill?
here is how it should go...player sees bad-guy, player shoots
bad-guy ONCE, bad-guy goes down, that's one way to handle EASY
difficulty. also how-come there are no female baddies? all the
enemies are guys, i like a little YIN-IN-MY-YANG in these type of
games and it would have been nice to have some female enemies trying
to fill me full of holes also. one more thing bothers me...no BOTS present
in multiplayer, WTF??? why wouldn't they just include some? kindof standard
with these types of games in this day and age but i guess cryteam didn't get
the memo on that one. ok i am done complaining, bottom line is that it's a great
game that shouldn't be missed if you have a low-end PC like me, and after you beat
the game the included level-editor will keep you busy for a while, does anyone know
any good youtube tutorial videos that will help me learn to use this thing?
I have recently finished this GOG version and its as good as I remember it being not long after release. Its not perfect but still fun. I had to change a setting in a file to get rid of a five minute not responding bug on loading screens but once done I had no problems playing the game, I found the fix on the GOG forum.
With the Far Cry franchise increasingly burdened with RPG elements and politics, it's refreshing to revisit the original game that set the standard for realistic open-world first-person shooters. Bright, colorful, and challenging to say the least. Huge selection of locations, vehicles, and weapons. Play on the easiest difficulty if necessary because, even then, it'll rough you up plenty along the way. Any graphics solution from the past 10 years will be able to play it at 1080p with high frame rates. A straight-up and challenging FPS for only $10 US. Hard to beat that.
