Fallout: New Vegas Ultimate Edition

Introduction [...] Some years ago, when Fallout: New Vegas (FONV) first launched there were many reports that it was very buggy, crashed a lot and was downright unplayable, so I stayed away from it back then. Now I decided to give it a shot and I am supremely happy that I did. To find out why, read on. II. Cons The negatives of this game are few and far between, so let's get them out of the way from the start. [...] III. Pros (also see section IV on enemy AI) This is the best Fallout game ever made (yes, better than Fallout 4 too). It learns the lessons of all Fallout games that came before it, it also learns the lessons from other, non-Fallout games and incorporates them all in FONV brilliantly. LORE AND STUFF: FONV builds perfectly on the lore of all previous Fallout games and includes all of their very best features, including music and items. FONV takes place years after the events of Fallout 2 and 3 but you will encounter many situations which allow you to relive the most glorious moments and the most touching friendships of the past. I will give you a few "spoilers", but trust me, what I will tell you to illustrate the above point is just a drop in the bucket and will not ruin the game for you. This is the real deal, made by the original creators of Fallout. Managing to be both HUGE and deep, with countless places, great storyline (that you see changing the world as you progress) and Obsidian-quality dialogues, this is the very best Fallout and one of the greatest RPG of all times (I would rank only Planescape : Torment and The Witcher 3 above). It's an absolute no-brainer for anyone who like RPG.

This is still the best 3D-Fallout game. If you like Roleplaying-Games and Story you can have an impact to, this is the Fallout you will like. Also check out the mods at nexusmod to give the game a facelifting and have it running better on modern Systems ( Have to try out the gog release yet).

Obsidian's New Vegas was a return to form for the franchise. The game takes the first person 3D perspective from Bethesda's Fallout 3, alongside plenty of its mechanics, and on top of tweaking them (for the better) adds new features of its own, like traits (from the original Fallouts), gun customization and iron sights (inspired by mods for Fallout 3), a Hardcore mode with basic needs (food, water, and sleep), survival recipes, a reputation system that almost entirely replaces the flawed Karma system of Fallout 3, and factions you can side with in order to alter the plot. The writing, in addition, is top notch. New Vegas isn't a perfect game. Engine is almost the same as Fallout 3's, so you can consider this game as an "expansion" to Fallout 3, though New Vegas stands perfectly on its own as a full release. It was very buggy on release, and most importantly, it isn't as challenging as the original titles were, which takes away from the experience. jsawyer is a mod developed by the game's Lead Designer, Joshua Sawyer. It makes the game considerably more challenging and in-tune with the classics. If you must play New Vegas and you have experience with Fallout 3 or slightly hardcore RPGs, I suggest you get that mod and play the game as Sawyer would have intended you to. The difference it makes to the experience is huge, and you won't regret it. If after that you decide you want a tougher wasteland experience, Vicious Wastes (from the Nexus) is an excellent, punishing alternative.

Fallout New Vegas is my favorite RPG of all time. I love exploring New Vegas, the soundtrack is incredible (and not just a retread of Fallout 3, looking at you Fallout 4). There's something incredible about walking through the wastes where everyone is a potential enemy or friend with your trusty companion(s) or alone while Billie Holiday sings that I just can't forget. It feels like a lived in world that isn't driven solely by murder but people trying to survive in a harsh future.
