Fallout 2

The UI and graphics may hurt nowadays, but in terms of RPG mechanics and story Fallout 2 is unbeaten imo. Never have I laughed so much in a somewhat serious game, there are so many unique story lines with lots of randomness sprinkled in you can play this game over and over. I am a casual gamer, but this puppy I played through in every conceivable way (well screw 100% pacifist, I got a gattling laser and I am gonna use it). If you can accept the click fest that is the ui, the slow pace and have the patience to read the story lines you will enjoy this one for sure. This quote sums it up for me: Let me enlighten you, grasshopper. Fallout 2 is cool because it's a nonlinear, nonclassbased kickass postnuclear computer roleplaying game with a high replayabillity value. Fallout 2 allows you to play your character the way you want. If you want to play a goodie-two-shoes, you can. If you want to play an evil bastard, you can (Yes, you really can hit children in the groin with a sledgehammer). If you want to play a moron who can hardly talk because of his low intelligence, you can. --Shadowman P.S.: Dont hit children, it is wrong and the game will punish you...but when that brat steals your newly acquired hunting rifle you will be tempted.

Still the best fallout game and possibly my favourite game ever. In my opinion no game has evr quite matched it for replay-ability which, to me. is the mark of a great game. If i dont want to play it again, it can't have been that good! Yes, the graphics are dated, but the story, character development and the sheer number of different ways the objectives can be completed (to say nothing of the random encounters) means that no two playthroughs need ever be the same.

I shall say... yes. Probably the best rpg of 20th century. It has all the aspects for a great RPG. A well detailed board info (stats, skills, fx ...) for the creation and the evolution of the player A complete wide "post apocalyptic" open-world to explore with random encounters sometimes very funny (plenty of hidden easter eggs to be found) and the background is really immersive The player have to make choices almost all the time (not only good or evil) to complete quests A turn-based combat engine which let you the time to make strategy This game is a Relic

Even if it was never completed, it gave you a vast open world; brutal , unforgiving. You could complete quests the way you wanted never seen before

2 shares many of the same strengths to its Obsidian-developed progeny, especially in the area of writing quality. Still, it's incredibly different from the F:NV in terms of gameplay; as such, the isometric, turn-based combat (also present in 1) may turn off fans of the newer titles. Still, the many Mad Max-esque humorous interactions one has in this game will continue to attract even when the combat may prove head-scratching.
