Fallout 2

Yes. The one and only Fallout 2. The game sucked me in like no other game did. Graphics are dated but still work. Controls are ok, you can do everything with your mouse. Great atmosphere, music, sounds, story, combat system, main quest, sidequests, many easter eggs, pop culture reference, spiced up with a lot of jokes. Before you begin your quest as the Chosen One, installing the fan made Fallout 2 restoration project is highly recommended. Just a few glimpses from the vast world of Fallout 2: You can have very interesting NPCs to join you. At a point of the game one of them meets his daughter and has a dramatic conversation with her. Another one always complaining about his heart condition. Bess the brahmin, a Cyberdog, or a real dog, a mutant, a ghoul, you name it, they're all interesting, most of them are actually useful when you fight your way through the harsh and unforgiving wasteland. In the game you can get married and you can divorce your spouse if you wish. Based on your actions, you will get your karma. You can be nice, or you can be a real jerk. You can use booze and drugs. You can visit prostitutes. You can be a boxing champion, an adult movie star, or a slaver, or... in a certain town there are some notty kids who will try to steal your valuables. And you've got loaded guns. Don't even think about it, those poor children need help, right? You can help them of course. I did. But you can choose to be evil and... That's really sick isn't it? Many NPCs will hate you for that! Some of them will say when they see you: "I hope they'll get you" Of course I never tried this you know, just talked with someone who knows someone who actually did. You know what I'm sayin'? Fallout 2 is 100% coolness, I think it will be my favorite cRPG of my life. If I live long enough, I will probably replay this game a few more times. It's always a different experience. If you don't like to read as much as I do, this game might be not for you, I like to read, that's why I love this game. On the other hand, even if you don't like to read that much, just give this game a shot. Come on, $10 is not much, now with a discount it's only $2,49. Again, don't forget to install the free Fallout 2 Restoration Project, it fixes a lot of bugs, and makes this great game even greater!

Most likely wont be liked by the new generation, but is superior in every way beside graphics, and controls, over the Bethesda cash grab. Unique world, good story, nice TB combat, gory. Like every old game, search for community patches for bug fixing and resolutions fixes, if any.

In the beginning, I felt like even a pebble could crush me... if only I had a gun, maybe then I would stand a chance in this harsh world. I met a guy, not a nice guy but not terribly bad either, he had a gun. I started justifying murder in my head, thinking that it's OK to take a life if that would lead to me saving many other. So after a lot of hesitation I did it. But now, doubt and guilt were the only things in my head. Pros: The Story, the freedom, the possibility´s, the world building, the dialogues, the characters are absolutely marvelous! One of the best games ever!!! Contra: To say it nice, the graphics are... nostalgic. It never was a problem for me, especially cause the assets are beautifully detailed designed, but its a "isometric" pixel goulash anyway. The Interface and the systems are some kind of dated. But absolutely playable as well.

The sequel to the original Fallout (which is fantastic, by the way) this is quite possibly the best installment of the Fallout franchise. It still has the strategic isometric turn-based combat, and not much has changed from the original in terms of the controls department. It's still gloriously simple, but be warned that if you're not particularly high in Strength with either a decent unarmed or melee skill, you're gonna have a bad time in the beginning. An extremely rich storyline, hours upon hours of complex gameplay, and a talking Deathclaw in your party.
