Difficulty worsen each time you dye ?

Well... I like the game very much for its controls, graphics, feel, tech-tree of the upgrade system. I like also exploration in it, diplomacy, trading, mining, repairs, crafting. About combat, it is on/off when i'm out of homing missiles i'm pretty much dead. What I find very strang is that my first attempt out of the box lead me to sector 3 and well inside it. I'm at 10th life or so, but now ennemies kill me very quick. it looks like I'm stuck, sector 1, 2, restart etc. Instead of my better shields helping me, it looks like ennemies are way stronger now than on the first lives. The more I analyze the way I do in combat the more i realize than none of my shots are touching the ennemies, only homing missiles wich is frustrating. I've tried pulse laser, gatling, with no luck. There is a laser that seem to have an auto=aiming ability, but does very low damage. It's a shame because I would like to see the story mode develop, but the most travel i did was on the first run, and it worsen from there.

Still in "EARLY ACCESS" in 2021

This game was relesed in eptember 2016. That's when I purchased Everspace. Everspace is a fine space sim with a very limited story and a game design that depends heavely on grinding, grinding, and more grinding, just so you can upgrade your ships. In fact, upgrading your ships is the only real motivation to keep playing. The narrative that exists come sin the form of chance encounters with quest givining NPCs. The GREAT thing about this game is that it is so beautiful. The graphics are gorgeous, and should hold up for a few years, In 2021, the game still looks awesome, even though it was released back in 2016. If you are satisfied with a beautiful dog fight simulator, then this game won't dissappoint. But don't expect any kind of story to compell you to keep playing. You're playing to upgrade your ships, and make the dog fights easier and easier.

not linux compatible...

it will install on linux but if you choose to play it on fullscreen mode, the UI will stop working, leaving you stuck in the menu. If you close the game, a background process "xed" will continue to run with >3GB in memory until you kill it manually. That is unacceptable. It seems GOG stays as dishonest as they have been for years in their compatibility/stability claims. It's really a shame.

Feels worse than it looks

The idea of a 6DOF space roguelite is an appealing one, and on first blush this seems interesting. But I have one major issue- movement is so sluggish. Even with a fully functional engine, no amount of strafing or rolling seems sufficient to actually avoid fire. I can see upgrades on the between-runs perk screen that can be bought to increase max speed and boost speed, but I don't feel like grinding to get the game to a state I'd enjoy playing. Plus, it also has the problem of boosting and primary weapons drawing on the same resource, which means you basically have to choose between going fast and dealing damage. Perhaps this is comparing apples to oranges, but one of my favorite games is Enter the Gungeon, and one of the things that makes having to restart constantly in that game more bearable is that no matter how weak your character is, you can theoretically play perfectly and avoid all damage. Increasing your damage output and defense with upgrades just increases the amount of mistakes you can make before death. This game just feels like skill is locked behind the numbers.

Punishing game mechanic

Barely started the game but can't play it beyond several sectors. You need fuel to advance but there is none. The fuel-rocks are too infrequent. You can try blowing up stations but the output won't fill 1/4 of your jump needs. For example you need 25 units to jump but I only got 6 after destroying a space station with fuel tanks... and then got blown up by security. Should have read the reviews before buying this but ooooh shiny!
