Brilliant!

I have to say, I don‘t play strategy games and I‘m not a guy who‘s good at tactics and stuff. I also never played the previous Desperados games. When I saw this game appearing on Gog, my initial thought was „I couldn‘t care less“. Then I saw there was a demo so I downloaded it. I started playing, not expecting much, and this game got me hooked within the first 10 minutes. I bought this game for 60 bucks immediately (Deluxe version, the soundtrack is great, too). It is so much fun infiltrating places, assassinating enemies, hiding their bodies and planning my next move. I‘m playing it on normal difficulty (it can be adjusted in detail) and this feels absolutely right for me. Each mission differs a lot from the previous one so there‘s a lot of variety. Also, each character has different skills, strengths and weaknesses and your job is to use them wisely. Even if you‘re not good at tactics-based games, like me, you should at least give the demo a try. It‘s REALLY worth it and to me, this game is already worth every penny spent!

Just as good as Shadow Tactics

MiMiMis last game Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun brought back one of the most underused genres from the late 90:s early 2000. With only half a dozen of previous games the Commandos-series, Robin Hodd and the previous 2 Desperados games blended real time tactics with stealth game play into a refreashing new idea. When it comes down to it, the genre is a puzzle game. You don't really have the choice of going in guns blazing or taking the stealth route. You are allways outgunned, and have limited ammo (a fact that might feel a little contrived but it's part of the gameplay loop. Instead you need to methodicly pick off guards one at a time without rising suspicion using each characters strenghts and weaknesses as best suited for the specific task. Need to move a body? Hector is the fastest but is also the most easily spoted, Kate and Doc might be better suited since they drag the body more slowly, but is it too slow before the guard patrol comes back? Need to lure a guard from a location? Hector can whistle and make them come to you, while Kate can lead them away and Isabell has a cat that can distract them. If you loved Shadow Tactics you will probably love this as well, it got basically the same gameplay with a new setting. But if you didn't like it theres not much here that will change your mind and if you expect vastly improved and expanded gameplay you will also feel a little underwhelmed. You have guards that are harder to trick and wont leave their poisition, you have big guys that only one character can beat in close combat. The skills are pretty much the same, a trap, a lure, a object that can blind, a "sniper rifle", a reusable throwable weapon, a animal that can distract, a call so guards will come to you. It's pretty much exactly what it was in Shadow Tactics, except for one character who have some really unique skills that give you a lot of flexibility. Is that enough for you? Then go ahead. You will not be disapointed in Desperados 3.

Simply one of the best games in 2020

Desperados III simply is a great game, you just can feel that the devs understood what made Desperados unique in 2001. They took the basic content / classic concept of the old Desperados and mixed it with new features of Shadow Tactics to create one of the best games of 2020. The graphics and music are nice, the game runs flawless and gameplay is just pure fun. By the way: For their story, they took many ideas from the greatest western movies of all time (e. g. "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly", "Once upon a time in the West"). Please support it, we need more games from this company!

Fantastic

Fantastic game with a very nice atmosphere and a very solid core gameplay lending it good replay value. I'm very picky about modern titles, and especially about reboots of old series, but this is stellar in quality and in being true to the series. Yes, tis not the gritty western, but it makes up for it with just the right modernization in gameplay, some good OST, a good story, and ... Just get the demo, try it! Other franchises trying to reboot/continue: take a good look and learn ;-)
