Cyberpunk 2020
Back in the day, I liked Witcher 2. So when I heard that CDPR wanted to bring the Witcher to the next level in an open world setting, I was curious to see if that would succeed. It did! Witcher 3 was all that I wanted and more. What a great company, I thought. Making such a lovingly crafted game that lives up to what's promised. And the expansions were great, too. Could I trust these guys to reach an even higher level in the next game they make? A game they would ship "when ready"? Well, I pre-ordered and found out that I could not. Cyberpunk 2077 launched a broken mess. Night city is the city of T-posing pedestrians that might clip into you and others at any moment. What can go wrong will go wrong in Cyberpunk 2077. It is less a vision of a dark future than a reflection of the darkness we face in present day 2020. The world and your PC may crash at any moment. But don't despair. Enjoy the light moments. Sometimes, you will reach lower areas of Night City and be so weightless that you fly into the abyss. The floor cannot hold you. It has not loaded in yet. Find new ways to survive and adapt to any bizarre situation that the broken world around you might throw at you by quicksaving and quickloading whenever NPCS decide to just stare at your dumb face instead of moving the mandatory quest progression along. Discover magic mirrors that make you go bald whenever you look at them with a hat equipped. Marvel at the public services who warp into any location by the power of horrible game design and coding. The police need not patrol the streets, they are always right behind you. Why have the paramedics pick up anyone when the whole scene can just despawn and respawn the vehicle as it is flying away? Cyberpunk is the game of 2020. A broken mess. A promise not kept. A line crossed and trust flushed down the toilet. But not all is lost, friends. My refund might come through by the end of this year. The game will not, however. Play it in 2077. Maybe. Depends on CDPR.
