Chaos Overlords

I'd like to give this game 5 stars but there's always room for improvement. First, let's get the bad things out of the way. 1) When you can fire up the game and know that you will make your opponents eat dirt, you know that the game is terribly unbalanced. 2) The gangs-for-hire are reduced into stats with no personality whatsoever. 3) Combat animation was pretty meh. They missed a chance to make it look even more awesome like Langrisser or even Gemfire. 4) This is a game that is hard to learn but easy to master. That's pretty much it. Now for the good stuff: 1) The music is great. Don't take my word for it? Go listen to it on Youtube. 2) Multiple approaches to dominate the game; go heavy on Research, sabotage your enemies by calling the donut-lovin' cops on them, launder money by causing as much Chaos as possible... list goes on. 3) The theme was extremely fitting and it's downright criminal that it doesn't have a sequel or a reboot. 4) The only bug I ever encountered while playing is this game is a goddamn spider hiding below my PC rack. 5) This is one of the best, if not THE best, board-game released exclusively for PC.

I bought this game at first release in 1996 and have played it ever since. Lost the discs forever ago and have been eagerly awaiting GOG.com to get this game. Can't wait to get my friends online and kick them around. Utterly addictive strategy game with infinite replay-ability.

Absolute masterpiece of a game...if you can make it work. LUCKY I own an older PC so I'm lucky. HOWEVER....you can run it on Windows 10 but it has to be in a Virtual machine :/. It's a graphical bug like mentioned prior, but it's also a bit more than that from what I've read? Think 16 32 and 64 bit. We run 64, it was made in 16 I do believe. BUT! If someone manages to get it up and running, feel free to add me :).

Loved this game when I was younger. Got it with the hopes of reliving some nostalgia, but the game absolutely won't work on Windows 10. Doesn't even work in "compatibility mode". Very frustrating.

Chaos Overlords is a very unusual turn-based strategy game. It takes place entirely within a grim, futuristic, crime-ridden megacity. There are several different game modes, but generally speaking the goal is to become the undisputed crime boss by conquering the urban grid one sector at a time and eliminating your competition. To accomplish this goal you hire gangs. There are many different kinds of gangs, and each has a distinct character. Some specialize in combat, some specialize in intimidating businesses so they pay you protection money, and some specialize in creating Chaos, which is to say they generate income through criminal activity, be it simple robbery, extortion, vice, or systematic financial fraud. The nature of the gangs ranges from humorous, to high-tech robotic, to frightening and supernatural. Chaos Overlords is the kind of game that has relatively simple rules on the surface, but a whole lot of complexity underneath. You can learn to play very quickly, but it will take time to master the nuances of the system. The nice thing is that it remains fun even after you do. When you combine an interesting and memorable cyberpunk setting, consistently fun gameplay mechanics, an excellent user interface, and engaging characters in the form of the different gangs, you get Chaos Overlords: an essential title in the library of anyone who enjoys the turn-based strategy genre.
