What's not mentioned in the description is that this is the DOS port, not the original Amiga game. The quality of the game is subpar compared to the original, with the most notable omission being the replacement of the original theme with a rather appalling MIDI tune despite adding full motion video cutscenes containing voice acting.

I’ve seen and played that game for the first time back in the 90ties on Amiga computer. It was still the time when Amiga was better than PC as far as the sound system was concerned. The main theme of Cannon Fodder was absolutely unique. The game itself too. Is it an anti-war game, as some people use to say? Not really. It’s all about killing and destroying! But hey! What the game on war should be about?! Getting back to main subject: Cannon Fodder is one of my favorite games ever. Its music theme is one of the best in the top-down view games. Its overall playability is magnificent. Its maps are very well designed with steadily increasing difficulty. And although this game’s about war, it takes it with a grain of salt. That’s why war has never been so much fun! I love those little soldiers each heaving their own respective names. Losing them was always making me sad. So be careful and don’t let them die! Great game!

Découvert en 1994 sur 'GameBoy Color' (GBA), je n'ai pas oublié les nombreuses parties que j'ai pu faire. Alors quand GOG me propose de ravoir ce jeu à un prix réduit, pas besoin de réfléchir..! Bon... c'est vrai... le jeu est un poil répétitif, mais c'est tellement bon de dézinguer les ennemis façon bourrin, avec son flingue ou à la grenade... et avec ce soupçon de stratégie en plus..! Il est juste dommage de ne pas avoir ce "beau" menu comme sur 'GBA', mais pour le reste, je trouve que c'est toujours aussi bon..! Quoi qu'il en soit, il ne faut pas passer à côté de ce jeu de stratégie guerrière, à l'esprit décalé. Et comme il était dit dans la version 'GBA' de 'Cannon Fodder' : "War has never been so much fun" ("La guerre n'a jamais été aussi amusante") !!!

Cannon fodder is one of those game that I don't know how to rate : it's so simple that can be both hilarious and boring at the same time. Gameplay wise, you guide a band of soldiers to complete a simple objective, usually kill or/and destroy something, and for the original system this game was invented, that was enough. But for PC gaming, even by yesterday standards.. is lacking that something to be a perfectly enjoyable experience for new comers. So, if you are a nostalgia gamer or a retrò that want to try something smashing in the past,... yes buy it! If not... you can still buy the game and have fun ( simple is not always a detrimental feature, and the game is a good war parody) but it could be repetitive in the long run.

This is a very cool game. But its very VERY hard in later missions. Game is a must have if you like a good challange! I never completed it but loved it.
